Lidl - "OH and just in case anyone's about to use their 10% off - I noticed that if you have discounted items (normally 15%) as well as the 10% that doesn't mean you get 25% off that item.  You get 15% off and then 10% off the reduced amount.  Only means a small difference on some items of course.  But if something was £2 the 15% would get you 30p off and the 10% would get you 17p.  So 47p off rather than 50p.  Still the savings do add up."
You are correct "Brie". However a lot of retailers do not give "double discounts", so it is pleasant to see Lidl honouring both discounts totalling 23.5% (not 25%) for items with a 15% discount bought on your 10% big shop day. I stockpile longlife items with a 23.5% discount obviously only if needed.

One thing I have to say about Lidl is that the online CS function is responsive and works well. I found the use of W'App as a platform particularly useful today.

Spanish Week tomorrow at Lidl. Surprisingly, no gazpacho. Quite a bit of cheese though, including Manchego DOP. There is Serrano ham on the bone with knife and chopping board, 1.1kg for 16.99 - absolute bargain for get togethers.

Aldi Moser Roth white chocolate bars (5 per pack) are a delicious treat.

Did a £120 click and collect this morning - pleasantly surprised by only 3 items being out of stock, and two of those had OK substitutes. All the important stuff was there - cheaper and better quality than Tesco.

I do regard Tesco very much as the poor relation to Aldi these days.

Gazpacho should be available - £2.79 for a 1 litre carton.

While I am drifting away.... Tesco's prices have crept closer to Aldi's, my local Aldi can't be relied on to have products in stock and Satan's Jumble Sale (the middle aisle) seems to be populated with progressively nastier and cheaper tat. I don't like Tesco as a company but a £1.50 delivery charge, hardly ever any missing items and a huge range of products is starting to be very persuasive. For me, Aldi needs to pull its socks up.

I take your point about the £1.50 delivery charge (though it’s too vague on delivery at the time of ordering for us) but I find the price difference still to be considerable. We have a Tesco delivery pass, but even with ‘free’ deliveries it’s still worth paying Aldi £5 for click and collect. Mainly for the price difference (Mascarpone 250g £1.80 at Tesco, £1.29 at Aldi - 40% more!) but also for the better quality at Aldi.

The Aldi price match items at Tesco are very frequently of inferior quality ingredients, and frankly some of them aren’t worth eating.

    This.

I suppose we should all know better (having years of money-saving experience), but all that is being claimed is an Aldi/Lidl price-match.   It says nothing about quality.

I did a test shop of Sainsbury's price-match products a while back, and the only thing that I bought that was genuinely better value than L & A was the Hubbard's (now Stamford Street Co) Peanut Butter.   This is still slightly cheaper than L&A and still comes in a glass jar, not plastic.

I don't use Tesco very often as local store isn't in convenient location but I do make use of the Sainsburys /Aldi price match.

It's mainly for the loose fruit and veg then I can see what I'm getting. They are particularly good for loose onions (red and white), broccoli and carrots. No packaging is a bonus plus my own choice of quantities.
