  • That icecream looks interesting Rosa, report back after tasting? :)
I tried the turmeric latte ice-cream this afternoon, it was a bit of a curate's egg.
    • +ve: soft scoop, chopped (pea)nuts gave a nice bite, and an interesting kick at the end which I assume is black pepper.
    • -ve: neon-hued (to be expected of turmeric I suppose) and far, far too sweet for my liking - and I have a sweet tooth!
I doubt I would buy it again as there is much tastier ice cream to be had out there. Didn't stop me from polishing off a whole half tub over the course of the afternoon though!

Glad you reported on this.  We've looked at it a few times but not bought.  I'm not a fan of overly sweet things (though I do love caramel....) but I think I'll stick to more conventional flavours.  Saying that I think there's some odd green tea one as well - anyone tested that yet??

  • The Deluxe Cherry Yoghurt is delicious, especially accompanied with their raspberries (just get the cheaper ones).

I've decided to give up buying salmon from Lidl as even when it's well within it's best before date and unopened it already smells on the turn.  Looks like it will be Tesco for me.  Assuming I can get to a decent size one as the prices in the little one near me are horrendous!!
They occasionally do frozen salmon in a strip of six pieces. These are very good and good value.

I wouldn't buy any other type from there.

Next time the offer's on I'll try to remember to flag it up on this thread
Ok - it's back. My OH spotted it with the ice cream!

It's a strip of five pieces, totalling 600g. More expensive than i remembered at £9.95.

    Good quality though

Thanks Rosa :) Doesn't sound like my kinda thing then. Saved me from buying it just for it to end up being a freezer blocker!

The green tea one Brie - I've bought it before, and it didn't really taste of anything. Not even sugary nothingness like you sometimes get with things. I've never bought it again. A bit OT but morries have Morelli's icecream on offer £3 for a 950ml tub. Jeez it's good icecream! There's double cream vanilla, rasp ripple, or honeycomb. They're all quite rich, and the honeycomb is very sweet.

I agree with fatbelly about the frozen salmon pieces. I'm sure they used to give you more on the strip, and they were cheaper, but they really are good pieces of fish. I do them in a foil parcel with thin strips of pepper and carrots, a squiggle of honey and a dash of soy sauce, into the middle of my steamer (new tatties in the bottom section, peas/beans in the top), only takes about 12 mins. I was pleased to see them back, they're such an easy meal :)

Edit - the little cherry yogurts are lovely as a 'sauce' poured over vanilla Morelli's

How very odd!!  Yes Beefeater is gin - don't think they do any scotch of any sort.  But obviously the Aldi stuff is made at the same place or at least bottled at the same place and someone forgot to change the caps!

Meanwhile at Lidl - Italian week and that means they have their buffalo milk butter.  It looks posh and expensive but actually isn't.  It's a smaller pack 125g instead of the usual 250g but it's only 99p as opposed to £2.09 that the "normal" butter cost me.  It's really nice in my opinion - unsalted and rather than the creamy taste of sweet butter tastes very very slightly of cheese, like a small hint of goat's cheese.  Precisely the sort of stuff you would want with a fresh baguette and maybe some cold cuts and tomatoes.

Sounded like something I might like to try until you mentioned the goat. A bit like the funky wine you described!

  • I got these in Lidl the other day.

Very nice. The strength of the lemon is just right, tart enough to know you’ve had it but doesn’t make your face screw up. The white of it was a sort of fluffy cream, and the meringue wasn’t too sweet. Only £1.99 :) The state of the box is cos I’d already binned it before I remembered this thread. I can recommend them and I’ll be buying them again.

My kind of thing but at £1 each still what I would consider to be a pricey treat!

I tried this protein pudding - not really my thing so there is no way I would part with £1.19 for it, but it came in a TGTG box - and was surprised that it tasted so nice! (After first getting over the shock that it is suitable for vegetarians). Not too sweet, not too "powdery" tasting and also very filling - I got 4 portions out of it:
