Good and Bad Buys at Lidl and Aldi stores (***Please don't expire***)

No 6 packs of lentil crisps in Aldi, so I got the 6-pack of crinkle-cut potato crisps (meaty flavours). £1.05, so cheaper than the lentil crisps would have been.
They're pretty good - nearly as good as I remember McCoy's being. (They are a similar cut, maybe slightly thinner, and the flavours are very similar).1 -
I used to find Lidl final day reductions (20p, 90p, £1.50 etc) enticing and useful for trying out new things on a serendipity basis. So these were often very "good buys". But my local Lidl store has had no such offers for at least a couple of months and offers only the 30% reduction offers. Are others finding the flat rate offers still available in the shops they visit?1

Are others finding the flat rate offers still available in the shops they visit? While the 30% stickers have been around a long time (I often see it on stuff with ~2 days left on the date), they added a new 60% reduction tier to replace those fixed price 'final' reductions. That was done a few months ago at my local store. It works out to be better value for some stuff, but worse value for more items. They do still have those reduced boxes of fruit and veg at the fixed price of £1.50 though - but they can be hit or miss depending on which staff member is filling them. My local store processes a lot of the reductions before they open, so I'm often there for their opening time - which I generally find to be the best time anyway (fully stocked, clean and tidy store, fresh still-warm bakery stuff, quiet with no crowds of people, etc). Also, further to my previous post... I noticed a new type of "longer duration / multi-use" coupon on their app this week. I guess the summer weather has left them with too much charcoal. Half price is a decent offer so will buy a couple of bags this week, and if they still have them in 2 weeks time then another few bags (stacked with the 10% coupon). They should be good for next year if I store them somewhere dry.2

I recommend the Chilled Coffees in Lidl (250ml/65p).
I first tried these with a voucher, and I've been quietly impressed with each of the several varieties that I've tried. They are certainly much, much better VFM than iced coffee drinks from coffee shops.
If you have a voucher on the App, bear in mind that the product varieties have more than one product code, and the voucher will typically only apply to one of them.

My Lidl app has 6 packs of their Deluxe crisps for free. The app itself showed veg, cheese & onion and salt & lime, none of which really appealed to me but they had just the plain salted ones in the shop and those worked just fine.Cornucopia said:No 6 packs of lentil crisps in Aldi, so I got the 6-pack of crinkle-cut potato crisps (meaty flavours). £1.05, so cheaper than the lentil crisps would have been.

As this a targeted or universal offer @Brie ? Universal would be reason enough to get me restarted on the app.Brie said:

So much to read, so little time.1 -
It'll be a "prize" from Spin of Surprises, I think. I had free Salsa a couple of weeks ago. I certainly don't have free crisps ATM, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with the Aldi ones.Rosa_Damascena said:

Ive been drinking decaf tea for years. I tried Lidl and Aldi but thought they were unpleasant, both ended up in the binYoungBlueEyes said:Oh and re tea - I drink caffeine in the mornings and decaf after lunchtime. Yorkshire tea, no compromise. But Aldi/Lidl own cheapo decaf is fine if you let it brew longer

We asked our local Aldi when they were going to install self check out tills and were told they were not going to as it encouraged shop liftingharz99 said:My local Aldi has just removed all the Covid plastic screening around the checkout cashiers, and a few weeks back installed the self check out tills which they are trying to persuade everyone to use (unsuccessfully)...what next, bag checks and/or card only payment.
. This is not a poor area but “times is hard” and our local Waitrose now has a security guard 2 -

That's interesting. I live in what's regarded as a deprived area - items such as meat and cheese have electronic security stickers on them and what appears to be a high level of shoplifting - yet they are installing more self-service checkouts in the local Aldi stores4
