@WillPS after the 3 month promo period, the Clubcard Pay reverts to the normal 1 point per £ spent in Tesco

0 of which are paid by Tesco Bank. There is no benefit whatsoever to using your Clubcard Pay card after month 3.

I am not planning to use Clubcard Pay after the 3 months (unless they come up with new offers) as I will be using my cashback credit card again, through Tesco Pay+. I am also not using the Clubcard Pay card at all in other shops, for as long as I get better cashback in other ways.

However, there are plenty of people who don’t have, and cannot get, a cashback credit card. For them, Clubcard Pay is a nice card, in Tesco and elsewhere, now and after the promo period, as they just need a single card. That is, if they can actually get the Clubcard Pay card, as I gather it’s still not generally available to everyone

As I've said, there are uses for people who already have a plurality of Cashback Credit Cards, some of which are applicable to everyone - if you're choosing to ignore them yourself then that's cool, but they do exist.

You'd do well to get a non-Amex card of any sort that'll give you an effective 0.3%+ cashback rate - the only one I can think of is Virgin Atlantic, and that only really works if you're a VA regular.

I have an ancient cashback credit card that still pays me more than the Clubcard Pay card outside Tesco, and also inside Tesco after the 3 month promo period is over. I also prefer to get my rewards in actual cash rather than points, and I don't care about Clubcard points deals.

Clubcard Pay debit card is working really well with Curve, so you can use it wherever Curve is accepted (if you cba for 1 point for every £8 spent). Enough said.

  • I have a full legacy tesco current account, although the perks are the exact same as this new scheme, there is one additional benefit to the current account that that clubcard pay account lacks.

If you have a legacy current account, so long as you qualified for the offline debit card when you applied you can use it at pay at pump, whereas clubcard pay is an online authorisation card, meaning that if you want to do your petrol spend on it you have to go to the counter to pay.
