Seasidegal's Scrimpy Retirement Diary!

  • Hi @Sarahwithlove - Mounjaro is going very well after three weeks. With regard to side effects, I personally haven't had any so far, except a little constipation the first week (sorry if this is too much information but best to be honest!). I think this was to be expected though as the volume of food I had been consuming has been reduced.  Via the YouTube channel I follow, the community there has had various different experiences. Quite a few are like me and have been fine, some have suffered headaches which generally seem to disappear once water intake has been increased, and a few have had experiences with diarrhoea and nausea, although again this. seems to stop once one has been taking it for a few weeks. There are those who don't get on with it at all due to recurring bouts of the above and have come off it. I suppose in the end it depends on the individual - the majority seem very happy as they've been getting decent weight loss results.
Do I think it's worth the cost?  I buy mine privately and with postage I pay just under £154 per month and I've had rejiggle my budget!😳
But for the last nearly twenty-five years when I began to put on weight I've tried everything out there - WW, Slimming World, Dukan Diet, Atkins, shakes, etc etc - you name it, I've done it!  I wish I had the cash back from all the multitude of diet books I've bought over the years - they would fill a library!  It's easy to say, well just eat less and exercise more, but this hasn't been working as I just go back to eating the same after a few weeks.
I'm 69 now and want to enjoy my retirement instead of suffering all these aches and pains due to obesity.
So time will tell if I think it has been worth the cost but if it works, then it will be money well spent.
I hope the above helps. x

  • Thanks it does. Seen a lot of positive things about it but also seen all about possible long term side effects. But guess you get that with anything. Have they said about when you come off it, how that will work? I know for diabetics they say you should stay on it for life.

  • Bother!  Just halfway through my post, then lost it!😡
Started off rainy and grey in Seasideville this morning then really it really brightened up. I had my morning Zoom Pilates session then afterwards nipped to the gym for my half hour with the PT.
After the gym I went to the greengrocer - he's more expensive than the local supermarkets but his fruit is so good. He sells these big juicy satsumas and lovely English Discovery apples. I also bought a large slice of melon and some delicious cherry toms on the vine. And a couple of carrots to grate on my salad.
Then off to the little Tesco for some small tins of baked beans - the own brand was 25p - the Heinz variety was £1.20!  Guess which one I bought!😳. The Alpro oat milk was on Clubcard offer at £1.20 so I bought a carton. I'm been using Aldi's long life version for the first time. It's very cheap at £1.02 but I don't like it as much as Alpro or Oatly so I'll finish it but don't think I'll bother again.
Pedicure this afternoon - my toenails are now a nice shade of pillar box red!
This evening I had a nice long chat on the phone with an MSE friend in RL which was lovely.

    WEIGHT
Weigh in day today and I lost 3.4lb this week which I'm so happy about!  That's nearly 13lb lost in three weeks!😀👍
I've bought some digital scales that you connect to an app on your phone - as well as telling you your weight it will also give you stats on how your body is doing weight wise - visceral fat, BMI and quite a few others. It's not 100% accurate but will give you weekly trends - which appeals to me and keeps it interesting. The scales weren't too expensive either - I got them on Amazon for under £20 and they've had very good reviews.
Still feeling fine - I had my poached eggs, beans and toast for lunch, my three fruits and yoghurt in the late afternoon (pear, satsuma and frozen blueberries today (love frozen blueberries - they freeze soft and feel almost sorbet like😋)). Dinner was peri peri salmon, cauli rice and a green/grain steamer.

There's a lot of information swirling around out there about it - both negative and positive. You have to wade through it all and decide for yourself really.
The idea is when you reach your desired outcome is that you reduce your dosage gradually.  A friend of mine has done this and he's stopped it now. He was a big eater and his appetite has greatly reduced and still hasn't returned to pre-dosage levels. The only thing changed is that he's gone off eating fish - and he loved his fish!🤷‍♀️
I really don't know about the diabetic side. The NHS prescribe Wegovy for diabetics which is slightly different than Mounjaro. I chose Mounjaro as it has seen better weight loss results.

  • That is brilliant progress.  You are fairly safe with me at the moment, the only recent cooking is veg soup and carrot salad to support mr redo in his efforts here.

I love discovery apples, must keep an eye out.

It’s all very interesting. If it works for you and makes you feel good….its worth it for you 👍
There was a feature about collagen on Morning Live…think it was yesterday. It made sense to me . Dr Xand……I think he talks a lot of sense👍
    January spends - £587.58
  • Aww - thank you @beanielou!
@redofromstart - Discovery apples are my favourite!  They almost have a wine taste about them when you bite in!🤪
@milann - I found the Dr Xand collagen piece on the Morning Live Show ( it was on Monday's programme though I found a very interesting bit on why not to buy expensive toothpaste on yesterday's show!😂). Basically Dr Xand doesn't believe that collagen sold will do what it says on the tin!😂. The way to go is a varied diet and up the grains and legumes!  Oh well - I'll finish the pack as I'm only a quarter through and it's a nice 9.3 gm of protein per serving!

Today was a lazy day - I had to post a card so included a bit of a walk with this.
This afternoon I hunkered down a bit and have started re-reading my favourite novel of all time - Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It was a bit grey weather wise and there's always something autumnal about reading Rebecca even though most of it is based over spring and summer.....

    WEIGHT
No surprise side effects - it's all been very plain sailing. Usual breakfast and fruit/yoghurt meals (satsuma, apple and watermelon). Dinner was the half of the pack of salmon from last night, jacket spud with cheddar topping, petit pois and cherry toms. It was delicious. I'm really enjoying my food lately. Daily calories were 1390.

Glad it’s going well for you. There is another diary poster also doing weight loss injections - benbenandme if you want to compare notes.

I absolutely love the novel Rebecca and the original film, both are on the list of my all time favourites.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Thanks @Sun_Addict - I read some more of Rebecca this afternoon. The original film with Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine is my favourite version as well - even though the ending was messed about with! The only other adaptation I liked was the 1970s BBC serial which was pretty faithful to the novel.

This morning was another Pilates and gym day. Afterwards I picked up some more cherry tomatoes from the greengrocer as I'm going through these at a fine old rate. He also had some nice plums - I haven't had a plum in ages so I picked up a couple of these.

As well as reading, this afternoon I watched the new episode of 'Rings of Power' that's just dropped and also looking forward to the new Nicole Kidman series on Netflix this evening called 'The Perfect Couple.'

It was DD's birthday recently and I've been waiting to find out what she wants present wise. She said she'd really like to see Sigourney Weaver and Tom Hiddleston in 'The Tempest' which is going to have a limited West End run at the end of this year and January next. I've bought two tickets today as they're selling out fast. I went on the theatre group's own website to purchase these and also managed to get some cashback via T0pcashback. 👍. I got two good stalls seats for January and they weren't as pricey as I thought they'd be so that's a bonus. Some of the cost of theatre tickets starring the bigger celebrity names are eye watering these days.😳. So that's something to look forward to in the blah January days.

    WEIGHT
Pilates and gym went well - the back of my knee feels a lot better.
Food was the usual egg/beans brunch and fruit (melon, apple and plum today and a few walnuts) and yogurt. Tonight's dinner is beef burger, Spanish grains and rice and mixed vegetables steamer.

Funds out were Pilates, gym, fruit and theatre tickets ( at least I'll get a bit of cashback on these eventually!).
    Nothing came in. 🤷‍♀️
