I'd disagree with that, IMO poorer people would be driving older cars, which 9 times out of 10 are not as economical as newer cars.
Most new cars aren't any more economical. What they make up for in engine efficiency they lose in vehicle size and weight. There's no reason why old cars should be inefficient if properly maintained. The manufacturer's would like you to believe that new cars are safer and more economical but they generally aren't.

Agree, I managed to get near as dammit 40mpg over 200miles in a 14 year old 1.3 Skoda Estate with the boot full of stuff with rear seats folded down, driving at an average of probably 75mph and driving it almost like a stole it. At least I was impressed with those figures. Should quite easily be 45mpg+ unloaded with sensible driving and going at 56mph instead. I'm not sure how many similarly specced new cars would beat that. In fact I don't think there are any Estates with engine sizes less than 1.6 anymore?

It seems there's some amazing MPG increases in figures in diesel engines though, expecially those new small ones.

How are the police going to do anything when everything is organised by mobile phone and thousands of truckers will be involved? Are they going to go after thousands of truckers and lock them up or take their license off them? I doubt it. You'd need lots of police for that.

Where do you get the idea thousands of truckers are going to be involved? Why should we, who don't pay the fuel bill for the wagon we drive, be bothered about supporting the public who have made it quite clear they don't give a damn about us and treat us worse than dog muck?

And no, they don't need a lot of Police to take action - merely one stood at the front of the queue writing down everyones name and then passing the list to the Traffic Commissioner who will then suspend/revoke the HGV driving licences of the drivers. Unfortunately, the Traffic Commissioner also has the ability to block future applications for HGV licences as well so there's no guarantee you'd get it back.

So tell me again why we should risk losing our livelihoods, homes and family for a public who don't give a damn about us?

when the french arent happy the first guys to make a stand are the truckers, nothing gets in or out of the country without then,so surely with us being an island this would have an even better effect here?
i dont want everything my own way,i just want fairness.

The difference between France and the UK is that the French don't treat their lorry drivers as second class citizens so they feel a bit more obliged to stick their neck out. AND DON'T YOU DARE SAY YOU DON'T because you do.

Something to do with making it so they can withdraw licenses of any protesters so you lose the license and your livelihood. Shows the Government is scared of a challenge IMO. If every trucker in the country protested, would they cancel all licenses? The country would be pretty much dead then. Could be a case of - united we stand, divided we fall.

thats a bit emotional, are you saying personally I dont give a damn about truckers?
firstly my father is one, secondly im considering going for my class 1&2,and thirdly i work in an industry which is fairly closely tied to haulage industry.
but as for the every day motorist not caring about truckers i would agree, but then again maybe this is caused by some truckers inconsiderate driving,it takes an eternity for 1 truck to overtake another on a duel carrige way, causing a huge que behind them (i understand why it takes so long because of speed limiters) rather than waiting until YOU have 3 lanes or pulling back in to let the que disappear, this is why YOU dont get the respect YOU think YOU deserve.
