    Please withdraw this misleading post.

THIS GROUP IS NOT IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE ROAD HAULAGE ASSOCIATION.

    From the RHA website:
    'Transaction 2007' - RHA Statement

The Road Haulage Association feels it necessary to make a number of urgent points concerning the Association and the pressure group calling itself “Transaction 2007”.
The RHA is not “in Association with” the pressure group, although this assertion is made on its website. The expressions used such as “RHA/Transaction 2007 members” are highly misleading, implying a relationship which does not exist.
The RHA has never been involved in negotiations with “Transaction 2007” but has, as a matter of courtesy, held discussions with RHA members who are also part of the pressure group.
The RHA will always support members who wish to protest legally where members have expressed that wish through the RHA regional organisation.
Comments within “Transaction 2007” suggesting that legal and peaceful protests would produce no results and that more direct action should be taken are unacceptable.

, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) say that their Directors discussed the issue ‘at considerable length’ during a Board Meeting at the end of November.

According to the press release issued the day after, ‘RHA staff had sampled opinion of members to ascertain support for more public demonstration against rising fuel prices. Over 8000 members were either emailed or faxed, coupled with consultation at RHA regional councils and area briefings.

From this extensive exercise it was clear that there was no universal mood to embark upon a series of public protests.’

Since then, the only official word from the RHA has been to distance itself from Transaction 2007 who has members that are also members of the RHA.

    Reffering to Transaction's site
Today the homepage of their website contained the following Breaking News:

‘On the evening of the 6th December 2007 a meeting took place in the midlands made up of a delegation of Transaction and RHA members from all regions of the UK. On finalising the meeting it was decided unanimously that "legal protest action" would be commenced. The dates and times will be published here in the coming days. Your attention should be focused on the day of Sunday 9th December for a further release from us.’

While they may not be affilated with RHA, it is obvious that there are many people who are members of both.

The transaction website is shocking. The forum seems to be full of militant bully-boys who are determined to bring the country to a halt regardless of how it might affect anyone else! It looks like anyone who doesn't want a repeat of the gunpowder plot just gets shouted down.

Let's hope the police clamp down hard on these thugs if they start trying to hold the country to ransom.

    Selfish sods!

How are the police going to do anything when everything is organised by mobile phone and thousands of truckers will be involved? Are they going to go after thousands of truckers and lock them up or take their license off them? I doubt it. You'd need lots of police for that. What with the police wanting to strike too http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-east-news/todays-news/2007/12/08/police-mugged-on-new-pay-deal-61634-20220918/

There's a simple solution for the Government and that's to reduce tax. If you have any suggestions on ways other than their proposed methods, why don't you go on over to their forums and put your point across. Maybe some other people will agree and your idea will help reduce fuel costs without annoying/inconveniencing motorists.

The time for people sitting on their @rse complaining of petrol prices has to turn into actual action to reduce prices, or Mr Bean (sorry I meant Brown), will keep on putting the tax on fuel up a couple of pence whenever he feels like it.

So what taxes would you like to rise to make up the shortfall if petrol tax is reduced?

A question I posed on the Transaction forums

    http://www.transaction-2007.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=3242

Basically any tax which doesn't affect me, but affects people who are able to pay the tax. Fuel tax is indiscriminate in that it isn't based on ability to pay.

Possibly a bit more from the 1% of the population who hold 99% of the countries wealth.

The protests in 2000 caught the government out. If you think that the government is still unprepared and and does not now have specific contingency plans to deal with similar protests then you are naive.
