Currently on Octopus fixed until December 2.41p/kWh gas 17p/day and 14.02p/kWh leccy 22p/day. Looks like I'm in for a big price rise when I look for a new deal.Already checked out Bulb since I can get £50 referral credit but the cheapest tariff they can offer me is 22p/kWh leccy and 3.9p/kWh gas with 26p standing charge each for both. What I like about Octopus is that I am in charge of setting the amount of direct debit. Hate the big 6 increasing DDs as they wish and don't like building large amounts of credit.I'm not sure I understand how I can use this random guy's tracker to my advantage to find the best deal...?0

EDF are offering a direct tariff at just under 4.00pkwh with no exit fees till Mar. 24.I use 16000kw mostly between now and April so moving my gas to Octopus flexible tariff is also an option as I’m being switched to BG from the defunct PFP Energy
I have seen SSE, which offered me a 1 year fix at 3.87p per kWh or a 2 year fix at 4.15p per kWh.
1 year fix is a fibre/fuel package hence called fix and fibre " By signing up to the SSE 1 Year Fix and Fibre energy tariff you are eligible for a 12-month fibre broadband with Line Rental Only at a discounted rate of £11.50 per month" not checked to see if that 1 year gas only fix can be taken without fibre
If you set the filter to Energy Tariffs rather than All or Bundles, it shows a tariff called "Online Smart Saver v2 tariff" which is fixed for 1 year1 -

This period of high energy prices is down to UK and EU energy policy
I said years ago the UK plan to close down the coal plants was stupid and would come back to bite us
Previously the UK had a huge amount of swing capacity. It could burn coal if there was a problem in the gas supply (as is the case now) be it political or natural or an accident like a pipeline malfunction. The UK had a vast vast capacity to go from almost 100% gas to almost 100% coal (for its marginal production)
This winter alone the UK consumer will in one way or another end up paying billions more than we had to
500TWh of gas used in the UK over the winter 6 months x £40/MWh higher price = £20 billion additinal cost and that's if there isn't a harsh winter prices could spile to ultra ridiculous levels as both homes and busineses will pay almost anything to keep the lights on
This additional cost won't just be higher prices for heating your home but higher prices for everything as business pay higher energy prices and pass the cost on
The UK should have kept its coal plants at least 15GW as backup insurance it would have cost very little to keep them open and ready but not in use. It was a cheap way to guarantee security of supply and stability of prices

I've been on Octopus Tracker for almost a year. Our house is 100% electric and it was the cheapest electricity rate I could find from a reliable provider. Until recently, it has really saved us some money - but the recent wholesale price jumps have shaken me up a bit!
To their credit, they emailed me the other day to alert me to the price rises and inform me about the tracker price cap they've put in place. After a quick comparison online I switched to their flexible tariff (Flexible Octopus July 2021 v1: 18.96p/kWh, 27.39p/day). DMed them on Twitter, was emailed over a quote and link to switch tariff instantly.
So now I just play the waiting game! See how prices behave going forward. I'm guessing that should a miracle happen and the wholesale electric price dips, I'm free to switch back to Tracker anytime?
The fluidity of being able to hop tariffs with no fees or faff has been nice0 -
Ouch. Tracker has been leading the price charge for months.

Have you thought about Octopus Go or Go Faster. My peak price is 16p/kWh and 5.5p/kWh for 5 hours - fixed for one year with no exit fees.2 -
I'm currently on Octopus Go Faster (but only until late Nov/Dec) - useful to get the overnight charge in for 2xEV, so will have to cross that bridge when I come to it.Also on the octopus gas tracker. This is now capped at 6 p/kWh, but I only need it for hot water (combi) over summer. With winter approaching this could be painful compared to 2.5-3.0 last winter.I've just contacted Octopus to see what tariff they would let me switch has to. If I'm not mistaken the Octopus variable rate gas tariff will be capped at around 4p/kWh, albeit with higher standing charge (about £3/month). That is probably the cheapest possible right now - will see if I can switch?I can't see many other options. Also I do like the way Octopus are generally more innovative and transparent with the tariffs. What goes around - comes around

Yes correct

The auto-response unsurprisingly explains high workload & points to website (fair enough in the circumstances). unfortunately there, though the flexible tariff is listed, I can't see how to manage electricity and gas independently - I only want to change the latter, for now. Have tweeted on twitter now. What goes around - comes around
