I assume we've all had the self-congratulatory email from Octopus telling us our price will go down?

Mine hasn't arrived yet. I'm hoping it's just late, and I'm not being forgotten 😄

I'm glad we're having a warm spell - Gas Tracker is over 8p/kWh today 😱

8.24 here but I moved to flexible tariff a couple of weeks ago. I would have stuck it out on the previous version but the current version is awful anyway.

So what is everyone doing now with the tracker? Any recommendations?

It depends entirely on your personal view of world events and how much risk you’re comfortable with. This mess may be resolved quickly, and that will bring prices down to some extent. Or it may not. Nobody knows. As I understand it, there are no fixes available below the price cap, so it’s price cap or sit it out. I ditched Tracker for a fix some time ago because it was uncompetitive even then, as well as risky. In your shoes now I’d be off, because I see the upside as very limited and the downside substantial, but that is just one opinion.

For me, options are limited. I'm happy with my Octopus electricity tariffs (not Tracker, I'm on IOG and Outgoing Fixed). Sticking with Octopus for gas I can choose Tracker (which I'm currently on), Flexible (currently 6p/kWh) or 10M Fixed March 2026 v2 (which is 7.7p/kWh and barely any improvement).

I think I'm going to stick with Gas Tracker for a bit longer and see what happens.

Tracker gas current formula made it unattractive even before the Iran situation kicked off. I started the fix just in time before prices went up. Not sure what I'd if I was having to make the decision now. Fixes are pretty unattractive so I'd probably roll on to the price cap, but without government intervention, that is likely to be awful in the next 3-6 months and maybe even worse come winter.

I very much doubt there'll be any government intervention this time unless you are receipt of benefits. Your best bang for your buck will be to invest in thermal base layers this winter.

With energy infrastructure being targeted and SoHormuz closed I can't see gas wholesale prices coming down anytime soon so I've jumped onto Flexible from Tracker for gas and assess where we are after 30 June. I'm within 49 days of the Tracker expiry so should be able to go back to Tracker if and when the chaos settles in 3 month's time.
