All sounds good in theory but, surely, that assumes normal day to day fluctuations in price and that is most certainly not what what woud have been forecast and what we are going through at the moment.

Insurance companies work on a similar principle but they have 'opt out' clauses in their policies for exceptional circumstances; something the 'futures' market generally does not have.

We will just have to wait and see and hope that the politicians see commonsense in the very near future,

Mind you, considering the politicians involved……

It is said that there is a limit to everything. This cannot be true as everything has no limit!

I made the switch to Outfox today for gas and electric.

Looking at tracker price today it's 31.50 electric and 7.11 gas. Tomorrow will be higher I think.

    Outfox is 21.39 and 5.22 .

I got my Octopus bill today but there is 1 more days billing to come as bill date is upto the 6/3/26.

With wholesale gas prices up another 15% this morning I'd say there's a fair chance that tomorrow will be higher!

I've just sent an email to ask to change from gas tracker to the flexible tariff. I'd only just finished my year and found the new tracker was really not good and now of course it's even worse. I may well have jumped anyway but this has pushed me. If/when it all calms down I'll look at Fuse for gas.

Better electricity price for tomorrow - 19.2p down from 27.8 (SW).

"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

I've given up watching the 10o/clock news altogether, now that I can find out the state of the world tomorrow, just from Octotracker :-)

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..

Seems a weirdly large reduction in the wholesale electricity price (56% compared to the previous day), considering that the wholesale gas price has only reduced by about 12% today. Presumably not just based on the current situation in the Middle East and it must be forecast to be very windy tomorrow!

Would this put Tracker overall in a better light - when viewed over the medium rather than the short term??

I'm not sure if Octotracker (new to me) is designed to answer this.

Gastracker is now telling me that the elec price tomorrow (NE) will drop to 18.12 p which is really quite reasonable.

Personally I think Tracker is for the longer term. If daily price variations, even like recent days, cause stress you would be better off elsewhere. My electricity usage is not excessive and I enjoy tailoring it to cheaper days .. overall I'm still very happy, despite Trumpy.

I decided against jumping ship as soon as the price shot up, though I thought better of using the tumble dryer and charging the car the last few days.

    Here are the rates i've had vs the cap for the last year or so;

    Media (2).jpg

Other than the last few days its been almost completely well below the cap (and indeed below many of the fixed deals). If it looked like staying here for a prolonged period I might've had second thoughts, but given its dropped already this seems short lived.

The Octoprice app would help if it could add your own fixed deal comparator lines. But the savings page is quite useful.
