The trend seems to be to switch elec from fixed to Tracker but leave gas on fixed. Is there a reason for this? Does it depend on the version numbers?

I am fixed for gas at 5.99p. Now its not heating season the difference between that and the tracker average price for this month for my usage is a couple of pounds a month.

Thats nothing over the next few months and means that I am 'capped' at 5.99p should the tracker price then go up again once the heating season starts.

Another reason for staying is that the current fix is higher than my fix so if I were to move and then fix again it would be at a higher rate.

Should Tracker remain lower than the fix when it comes more towards winter then I will look at it again.

West Midlands Electricity is about 1p cheaper but the standing charge is 10p less so I have changed my electric on to April 2025 and left the gas on December 2024

Does it make sense to base the choice of a variable Tracker  tariff on daily fluctuations in the market price / kWh? Significant differences in SC's are a different matter.
Edit: a case for a "Compare" review.

My elec  is on the 14M March 25 v 4 Loyalty Fix tariff which gives me 22.92 p/kWh and 58.46 SC (inc VAT).  I could change to Tracker April 25 v 2 which would cost me 22.29 p/kWh.  According to Gas Tracker UK the SC looks to be around 58 p also.

There would seem to be little enough to choose between them. Except that the Tracker unit price is due to drop to 20.94 tomorrow. And could no doubt  yo-yo upwards again. A dodgy basis on which to choose which tariff to go for. One alternative could be to use the 180 day Tracker average @ 22.07. But the 180 day max peaked @ 23.28 so hardly a vote of confidence.

    Not easy

I would agree with you. The wind has had an impact on yesterday and today's price, which is looking like it will not continue into the coming week:

As I write this I am about to enter a "savings session". TBH I've come to the conclusion that these and other sweeteners are aimed at  EV people and above.  When I check the results for me they are in pennies only.  I really can't get motivated to participate - though I must recognize that overall they must constitute a plus in environmental terms.

If I compare my Loyalty 14 M Fix with the latest Tracker, allowing for any difference in SC's, again the savings are marginal.
