Octopus Tracker

The problem with Tracker recently has been that the prices are low in the warmer months when usage, and therefore savings, are small. But high in the colder months, when high prices can lead to substantial extra costs over and above fixes, or even SVRs. Add to that the greed factor - Octopus have ramped the factor used to convert wholesale prices - and it’s now much less attractive as an option.1

I'm wondering if this might have been a mistake and springtime might be a better time, on the grounds that energy might be cheaper in the summer months.Questions:- if you've been on this tariff a while, have you noticed that prices vary according to any sort of pattern, eg seasonally?- have you tried to do a price comparison with more traditional tariffs, eg the British Gas fix Martin is pushing at present?I joined Tracker back in January 2024, so had a full year. In that time, I reckon I saved around 20% compared to SVR. Yes, energy was cheaper during the summer months, but consumption (certainly for gas) was lower. Prices in December and January spiked a few times, but I hung on before switching to a fixed tariff (wouldn't touch BG with a barge pole). Will keep an eye on Tracker over the next 6-9 months and contemplate a switch back if prices stay low. At the moment, savings would be a matter of pennies, so not currently worth it for me.

Gas Tracker is probably as good a guide to patterns and seasonality as any that I have come across.

Predictable, considering that now I have moved to the 14-M Fix. The Loyalty tariff doesn't compensateTelegraph Sam
