Have you compared New Tracker with Agile, as it is likely the latter will be more competitive unless your peak time usage is high.
No I haven't where should I look to compare them?
Ignore me, I missed the obvious gas references in your post.
Or go for the fix now and decide in April on whether or not to go back to Tracker.
It's worth working out just what difference comes to in practice. For fear of spending a lot of time over saving just a few pounds which are neither here nor there.
Would Octopus still waive the 9 month wait to rejoin Tracker if a customer was to leave before their end date?

I think there's a 49 day (?) window within which there is no penalty.
Are you aware of the "All our Tariffs" listing which seems to be the authoritative source?

There are Ofgem rules prohibiting providers charging an exit fees within the last 49 days of a fixed tariff. However, that isn't pertinent to Octopus stopping people rejoining Tracker within 9 months of leaving the tariff. Octopus waives this if you agree to let the Tracker term run its course, and someone may be able to get special terms to leave early on a case by case basis, but I do not think switching to a fix ahead of the Tracker end date would necessarily allow a customer to change back outside of the 14 day cooling off period, which only extends a little way into April at the present time.

The truth is stranger than fiction (or a little knowledge is ..). I switched from Tracker to fixed when Tracker Dec 23 came to an end. Since when I have been firmly in the belief that I can rejoin Tracker whenever I want hassle-free.

I got notice last Friday that my Octopus Tracker April 2024 (Gas) is coming to an end on 02/05/25.

I've called Octopus to see what my options are with regards to a fix with wholesale prices going up in April and was given this quote which I've went with.

    Octopus 14m Fixed

    6.18 /kWh

    29.74p /day

    £0 Exit Fee

Obviously it's more than what I'm currently paying with being on Tracker. I've got it setup to start after my Tracker ends, so that way I'm not giving up my ability to move back to Tracker if wholesale costs drop.

I'm on a fixed income and trying my best to budget responsibly.

I guess what I'm asking is do you think I've done the right thing or5 should I ask to move to the new Tracker?

I switched from Tracker (Dec 23) to a 12m fixed in January. Currently paying 5.74p/kWh, 29.39p SC. Gas consumption will be minimal from April to October/November at around 15kWh per month. So even if gas prices do plummet in the summer, any saving is going to be minimal - The bulk of the monthly bill will be standing charges.
In the run up to winter, I'll look to see where Tracker prices are heading and perhaps consider switching back.

I was on the Dec 2023 Tracker for gas which ended earlier this month. Its been on the Octopus Flexible tariff since and today, I made the call to switch to Octopus Tracker Dec 2024 as rates seem competitive for my home/use (around 5900 kwh/year):

    Average daily rate: 5.45p
    S/c: 29.43p per day

Quick phone call and a couple of emails to sign up/agree to Tracker terms and conditions and within 30mins, its all set up to be effective from today.

My estimates are the Dec 2024 Tracker will save £4/m vs Flexible, and £5/m vs April price cap (for my region) with the flexibility to switch to a cheaper tariff (if one comes up in future) without being locked in or paying an exit fee.

Good spot, it's 0.26p cheaper per kWh and 2p more on SC than my current 12M Octopus fix but should save me a little bit so I have switched.
