@nekromantik Seems like at present there are as many forecasters urging us to stay with Tacker in order to benefit from peace and goodwill in Ukraine as there are forecasters like Martin L and all stations west shouting at us to fix before it's too late.  That's the plus  of Octopus: unlike EDF & co one can sit on the fence in a fixed rate tarriff until the time is "ripe"  to move back to Tracker without  getting hammered with a £150 exit fee.  You'd need to be canny  to recoup that £££ in terms of p / kWh savings with normal consumption. Layman's view

Don't forget that unless you stepped away from Tracker in the 49 day window before your tariff ended, returning to the tariff may not be possible for 9 months.

  • True.  I left my change to the last 5 minutes of Dec 2023

If you are on the 16month loyalty tariff and if things improve in the future can you move for example your gas back to the tracker and leave the electric on the fixed or vice versa or do you have to move both, or could you move the gas to the Dec 24 tracker and the electric to Agile?
Is there a way to compare the gas aspect of the fixed to the tracker like you can compare the electric on the octopus compare app?
  • I mentioned previously that I am in (mild) dispute with Octopus re my account which has fallen victim to "re-billing" or "back-billing". Coincidence or not but "re-billing" seems to be getting quite a lot of publicity in the news just recently.
I recently updated my spreadsheet and went through all of our bills in order to establish our average annual usage and forecast 2025-2026 cost, so that I could set our DD accurately. Whilst our electricity and gas together will reduce by £18.54 p/m, this is destroyed by the water usage/waste going up in total by £15.76, albeit a total monthly saving overall of £2.78 across all utilities.

We went through 2 rebilling's with Octopus in a 3 year period, one I was aware of and had previously checked at the time, the other I had missed completely. Luckily the difference was pence, not pounds.

From what I could figure out, the rebilling's occurred due to a long period of missing smart meter readings for electricity (There were multiple periods our SMET1 meter kept missing 30 minute readings randomly). It also didn't help that we were on the Go Faster tariff at the time for one of the rebilling periods, which was a cluster f**& to unravel and understand.
    Pennies holding up the Pounds.
  • That was the point. I kept a regular check on my bills -  without going to the extent of recording values all the way back to the wholesale source - and superficially all appeared to be in order. Until Octopus came up with their 37 instances of supplementary rebilling  charges and credits, out of the blue. Unintelligible to all but Octopus accountants, but which threatened to leave me considerably out of pocket.  I'm hoping however that as a result of hours of spreadsheet work I may have convinced them to see the error of their ways.

I use gastracker app to get the following day's rate which gives you historical highs/lows/averages

Both fuels do not have to be on same tariff.
  • Anyone tempted to switch back to Tracker? Lowest rate it's been according to gastracker. Plus gas prices down quite a lot with less demand and peace talks

Only if taking a short term view through rose tinted specs. Not forgetting that Tracker today is not the same as Dec 23.  Ask the same question in 6 months' time

No, for us the average rate/kWh on Cosy is lower than Dec 24 rates, and even lower still on Agile (our current tariff).
