Hi folks, anyone know if you get a notification from Octopus when you’re about to be moved to a different version of the Tracker tariff?

I’m currently on Dec 23 v1 which seems to be remaining better value than any fix. But from prior comments back in September I understand I’ll be shifted off this tariff at some point?

Just want to plan in advance if I can rather than be caught out 🙂
about 6 weeks before in my case

  • I'm guessing that come the end of the current tariff you get shifted onto the latest Tracker version or Flexible by default.   Is there any precedent for someone changing to the last-but-one Tracker tariff, either when the current one runs out, OR if one switches in advance? [If you are on Tracker "1", can you request to move to Tracker "2" if Tracker "3" has been introduced in the interim?]

You get an email, but the default position is to be moved to SVR.

If you want to lock in a fix you should be able to do that now without exiting tracker early (e.g. the new fix starts when the tracker fix ends).

For gas tracker the October 2024 doesn't look nearly as good as December 2023. Compare prices on gastracker.uk or similar websites. I guess there will be a Dec2024 option soon, I imagine that won't be better!

That does surprise me. May be I misunderstand (Tracker) "fix". In my example that would imply that one could sign up for "Tracker 2" even if by the time Tracker 1 finished Tracker 3 had been introduced.  I am not deliberately trying to make things complicated ...

You can sign up to any tariff that Octopus currently offers. If you're now on "Tracker 1" and Octopus are offering "Tracker 3", you can switch to Tracker 3. You'll have missed the boat for Tracker 2.
If you get to the end of your Tracker 1 fix and Octopus are then offering Tracker 4, you'll have missed Tracker 3 too.

Once you get your end of tariff email you can select which tariff you want to go on when it ends but it has to be a live tariff, so this has jumped a few versions of Tracker. Are they on October 24 now? You will probably then get the new tariff from the end of your existing one and they will honour those rates. If I want to change now I will be put on the new tariff from today/tomorrow and won’t be able to go back on Tracker for 9 months because mine doesn’t expire until March.
  • Current gas tracker ?july 24? 7.77% more than dec 23. Can’t see the next one coming down really., the hope is that it will turn out cheaper than the gas fix, but currently still above now. Expecting to stick with the latest fix when my tracker ends in January, missed the boat on the earlier one by 1 day 😵‍💫

When I logged into my account (whilst on tracker) I looked at my options for other tarffis, was offered the fix or the flexible. When I choose the fix, that start date was automatically 15/02/25 when my tracker is due to end. I called them up to go onto the fix immediately, but you could obviously start it when your tracker is due to end. Personally I just wanted off tracker so I don't have to keep following the rates which were heading above the fix rate at the time.
  • My interpretation is that the day that Tracker 4 is introduced the door closes on wishful new entrants to Tracker 3, even if Tracker 3 continues for existing Tracker 3 customers. OR can I opt to switch from Tracker 1 to Tracker 3 at some point in time before or after the launch of Tracker 4?
All this assumes that each new Tracker version is less attractive than its predecessor. Hence the motivation to get onto as early a version as possible.

  • I don't want to appear pedantic but to talk of a Tracker "fix" risks confusion with fixed rate tariffs which Tracker ain't. Or I have missed a trick.
