With only a few weeks until the end of my tracker Dec23 to go, I am thinking now is the time to move to a fix,I cant see me moving to a newer tracker as these are even more expensive.Only advantage to holding out to the end of term is I could go back to a tracker when I want. Whats peoples thoughts ?
Don't forget that Ofgem are expected to notify the Jan25 cap rates on or around the 25 Nov and they are likely to increase so there's a possibility that the currently available Fixed rates will also change (likely higher as well).

I've been doing comparisons on Octopus Compare using our historic usage/ time of use data for Tracker Dec23 version since 1 Jan to date and uplifting by around 10% to reflect the Oct 24 Tracker formula versus the Fixes that are available (EON, EDF, BG for dual fuel and combinations of Tomato, Eon, Fuse for Electric and BG for Gas) and decided that EON's 18 month fix was the best for our circumstances, especially to cover Gas through next winter as well.  I figured that the potential extra cost of the fix over tracker should energy prices drop significantly was an 'insurance premium' that was more tolerable than the downsides if we stayed on Tracker and energy prices continue to run at current or higher rates.  So we jumped ship to EON yesterday before these fixes get pulled..

It's all a guessing game but Oct24 and even more likely Jan25 Tracker versions seem to me to no longer be the no brainer that Dec23 and earlier versions were (in part thanks to Martin Lewis and HotUKDeals telling the masses about Tracker....).  On the other hand I could be proved to be completely wrong if world events change rapidly (eg Trump stopping the Ukraine war in 24 hours and Israel and Hammas et al reaching a ceasefire agreement)

Tomorrow's elec price will be the cheapest since 8th September. Prices next week shaping up to be much more reasonable too.

For a bit of context tomorrows electricity price is less than 1p kWh lower than today.rate, once upon a time Sunday electricity rate was typically cheapest day for apparent reasons.

"cheapest since 8th September" not correct there has been a significantly cheaper day within last 30 days.

FWIW, for me, on April 2024v1, tomorrow @ 22.33p/kWh is only the least expensive day since 24th October (22.20p/kWh). Lowest in October, on the 20th, was 16.38p/kWh.

Still, a bit down is better than up!  :)

I’m not sure that’s correct. In this area there have been countless days well below tomorrow’s rate since 8 September.

Sorry folks, yes brainf*rt on my part. Sorted wholesale prices for this year and for some reason thought the next cheapest price meant there was nothing cheaper in between! We obviously had a wholesale price of £36.78/MWh on 20th October vs tomorrow's £84.05/MWh and several other lesser dips before that.
  • Re Tomato to me a saving of 13 - 14 p/day, alone, would not justify putting up with what others report re cs and systems. There would have to be mega savings in addition. So what Tomato subscribers continue to feed to this and the Tomato forum should be particularly interesting. Please keep the feedback flowing.
