I believe that my FIT deemed export units have now been diverted to Octopus, going by what they say. [Guy there Cole H was very helpful] Smart meter readings yesterday showed
    Total Active Export 7257
    Total Active Import 8841
I confess that there appears to be some confusion / contradiction over the definition of Export and Import. Hopefully it will all come out in the wash

Can't see how there's any contradiction with the terms export and import. They are standard for things like exporting goods to another country or importing goods to this country. Imports are brought in, exports are sent out.

None whatsoever. The problem lies in getting Octopus to pay up!

Is solar generation going to the house import to the house or export from the solar?

If you want to look at it like that, say you call the solar system France, and the house is Britain, you would be exporting solar from France to Britain, or importing solar to Britain from France, same as other movement of 'goods' from somewhere to somewhere else. But it's pretty pointless looking at it like that.

The solar export on the meter refers to the export to the grid.

    No, that's a false comparison.

And it depends where the meter is (electrically), how everything is connected together, and how it was set up.

You might be right for this particular installation, but it isn't as blanket as you seem to think.

Maybe the way to remember it is...

    Import. IN. Into house.

Export. EX. Was your electricity, but now belongs to the grid. 🤣
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)

Right. What I was given to believe by Octopus was the opposite of what it says in economics textbooks. Hopefully if and when something appears somewhere (?)  in my account on the website the Truth will be revealed.

When you wrote that were you living at my house, or at Northern Powergrid HQ? :)

I ought to be able to sus it out if I take a few successive TAI / TAE readings myself.
