The official line on this as per the Tracker FAQ on the Octopus website is:

"Due to regulatory requirements, we'll likely need to update existing customers’ agreements too, but we’re not doing it right now. We'll review this in early 2024."

(The bold is theirs, not mine)

Two things occur to me from this. Firstly, the use of the word "likely", meaning that they'll probably have to do this but it's not certain. Secondly, they say they are going to "review this in early 2024" which is not the same as saying it's going to change.

So as far as I can see nothing is set in stone yet and it's quite possible that it may be some time before things actually change. I know that some of you have spoken to Octopus (including you, @MultiFuelBurner IIRC?) which adds weight to the expectation of a change in the near future. But what exactly did they say? Is it possible that what you got was just a customer service advisor's interpretation of the above official line rather than anything more specific?

In my case it's probably academic as I expect to move back to Agile on 1st March, but it will still be interesting to know. Of more siginifcance to me is any change to T's and C's that make it harder (or easier) to switch between Tracker and Agile but as far as I know nothing is changing there (or rumoured to change)?

    Hi Mikey,

I will share what I can but I do have two conversations going as Octopus responses are nothing but inconsistent.

An exert from one of my chats

The question I posed before this was our neighbour who joined two weeks after us with our referral had a fixed end date on their Tracker November 2022 v1 tariff so I was questioning if they would infact, despite joining later than us, be able to stay on the original formula longer. If this was the case I would like them to consider this for us as well in the interest of fairness.

They appear to have answered that with the above but on a separate chat which I consider to be higher up the food chain they are less certain.

I do feel Octopus are setting themselves up for a few complaints due to their inconsistent nature of doing business and the empowerment they give their individual customer service teams but sometimes this works in the customers favour.

We shall all have to wait and see but even the above statement suggests the party is over for those legacy and pioneers on v1/2/3 ???

    @mmmmikey

As a side note since the Tracker December 2023 v1 tariff has been released on the 11th December I have been tracking(sorry for the pun) how Agile compares without shifting any load. Which is interesting as we could shift hot water, washing etc and we are setup to miss most of the 4-7pm expensive periods

I suspect Agile may become more popular than the new tracker formula?

I have a fixed end date for electricity of May but no date on gas. I would hope they allow me to keep the Nov 22 rates until my end date.

When I look on my tariff today the end date has disappeared. I have a screenshot to prove I had one fortunately. It’s a bit sneaky removing it though.

You should open up a query about this as I do think this is a little underhanded.

my bill arrived today, iv'e had a couple of months where all is "as used". before that had a couple of issues with Gas "averaged", but this month have the electric averaged. some cheap days in the last month that i used a lot and vice versa on dearer days.
how do i find where the missing reading/s are? i'll have to try and work out what the difference is.

p.s my app shows all daily use but i know one 30 min missing reading and it's averaged.
  • weather saying a cold snap for next few days, will this be sending gas prices up, also i see market price for gas has went up

Trying to work out if switching to this plan is worth it.

is there anyway to find out the daily rates or the wholesale rates so I can work out the formula?

The formula is published in the FAQ:
The daily wholesale electricity rate can be obtained from Nordpool. I don't know if the gas rate is currently available.
