I concluded that Agile scored over Tracker on average if the consumer was able to load shift during the day / night, AND was prepared to accept greater volatility / risk. And the opposite. That is why I opted for Tracker. I have been looking for something like Octopus Compare that works with Windows. So far without success.

    A perfect summary IMHO :-)

Unfortunately if you're on another tariff, it's very difficult to compare it with what you would be paying if you were on Agile. Because Agile charges different prices at different times of the day, you have to make some assumption about how you would have spread your usage across the day if you were actually on Agile. That's a lot easier said than done.

It's a bit easier to make the comparison the other way. That is if you are already on Agile and want to compare it with a single daily rate tariff like Tracker, SVR, etc. In that case you can take your total Agile usage for the day and multiply it by the daily rate of the other tariff to do the comparison.

Hope this makes sense? I'm saying it because although Compare will give you a good comparison with some tariffs it won't work well if your not on Agile and trying to compare something else with it.
The Octopus compare app also has a load shifting option that you can switch on - it then shifts historic load peaks on the tariff you are comparing to to the cheapest times.  You can set the threshold for when it shifts the load.  Appreciate that telegraph_sam seems not to have a smartphone but for the benefit of other readers....

Back above 10p for everyone tomorrow. 10.7p in my region. I'll be making the most of the rest of today, plenty of cooking to do ahead of tomorrow!

  • It would be interesting to know where those colourful graphics came from. I guess wind is included in low-carbon. Does it tell me how much of my 29 kWh home consumption is wind powered? I can't quite get the sums to add up (it's late at night, Christmas Eve ..not at my brightest)

According to my Casio today's [North East] elec price is knocking on being a third of what it was a year ago - which admittedly wasn't far off the peak. Any forecaster who'd predicted anything like that would have ..

Merry Christmas to all the Tracker (and Agile) customers enjoying cheap electricity today!
I'm only on Tracker for gas, which is stubbornly just above 4p/kWh in my region, but it's so warm here I've turned the heating off. Cooking will be gas-fired later so I'll be saving then.

today got a half a chicken to cook and some chips as i live on my own merry christmas
  • My central heating decided to go on strike (I only realised when it was too late) 4 hours before the midnjght deadline so Plan A to use the final hours of the "Christmas rates" to heat the place up was not a great success. Happy Christmas to one and all Trackers nonetheless

Got Christmas dinner cooked on the last of the battery charged at yesterday's lower rates. Thinking of charging again this evening as rates up 29% again tomorrow, but forecast is for sunshine for a lot of the day. Will charge for a couple of hours late on. We had sunshine on Saturday and imported only 34p of electric - just over 3kwh - the standing charge was more.

It's from Home Assistant, the low carbon aspect is derived from the CO2 reading from https://app.electricitymaps.com/
