If inflation is 6%, that means that its worth while to fix for 12 months? In 6 months tome energy prices will be 3% higher. So if the tracker matches energy prices in 6 months it will be 3% higher.MultiFuelBurner said:This is key information that needs caveating against all the excited fear mongering excitement when the prices rise a bit. I suspect a lot of it comes from people not on tracker wanting the prices to rise.I don't think that will be helpful, because inflation over the next 12 months will not be known until November 2024, and energy price inflation is unlikely to match general inflation. In the hypothetical situation that we have to live with energy price inflation of 6% for the next year, it still could be a bad deal if the majority of your usage is in the winter months when you could have benefited from a lower Tracker price - assuming of course it takes 6 months to reach the current price you could fix. What we can be fairly sure of is that Tracker will not rise or fall steadily over 12 months, as it never has in the past. Any short term rise tells us nothing about the following weeks and months. The choice you have is between paying a price based on the market without hedging (Tracker/Agile), paying a price determined by a short term forecast with some hedging (Flexible), or paying a fixed price based on a long term forecast, hoping this has been underestimated.Good post, I am noticing is some quite risk averse peeps now, panicking every time it rises, speculating about world events etc., tracker was never going to just go down and down for infinity, there is cycles. I am pretty sure I have been paying prices similar to what people are panicking over now earlier in the year. The highest price I have seen when randomly checking my daily rate is still no higher than about 70% of SVR.Am happy enough, and accept the risk to myself with the model for this tariff.0 -
It used to be possible to look up on the web site a record of past meter readings. I can't see where this screen has migrated to on the new (?) web site. Has it vanished?Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know0 -
I remember joining tracker as a hotukdealer in Feb and be being over the moon at paying 30% less than the SVT.
Out of interest, what were unit prices like before then when UK gas prices were slightly higher? Or even last Xmas when they were higher still?
What are the capped prices for those on the better trackers?0 -
Yes, as per discussion yesterday, it is now only available in the app.Telegraph_Sam said:It used to be possible to look up on the web site a record of past meter readings. I can't see where this screen has migrated to on the new (?) web site. Has it vanished?

You can get a plot of a year's worth of Tracker prices here (pick your own region): https://energy-stats.uk/octopus-tracker-eastern-england/RavingMad said:I remember joining tracker as a hotukdealer in Feb and be being over the moon at paying 30% less than the SVT.

You need a smartphone or tablet running Android or iOS. You would get it from the Play store or App store on your device.Telegraph_Sam said:Can you remind me pls where / how to get the app. I assume it is downloaded - and runs alongside the existing website?

I don't know why they removed it from the web site, it just looks like change for it's own sake. Maybe someone thinks nobody's interested in old school meter readings if they have smart meter.masonic said:

Do people without smart meters see their history on the web site?
Just a point on the app, even there it only shows readings since the smart meter was installed, not full history.1 -
Last year we had the benefit of 40p/11p caps on Tracker and from October these were brought down to 34p and 10.4p due to government support. Through August and September we paid more than SVR quite a bit and there were days in December when we could have paid significantly more if it wasn’t for the caps. Now the much higher Tracker caps have changed things completely, there’s a lot more at stake.RavingMad said:I remember joining tracker as a hotukdealer in Feb and be being over the moon at paying 30% less than the SVT.
