  • Agile is a bit like shares. Past performance is no guarantee of future pricing. Moreover, unless the actual usage profile is overlaid against both tariffs, then any result will be flawed. For Octopus customers, overlaying actual usage (kWh for each 30 minute period) is possible with apps like Octopus Compare. Other third-World suppliers have yet to provide their customers with API access to their actual energy accounts.

Anyone have experience of joining this tariff without having working smart meters?

Just had my old meters swapped for smart in preparation to swap over on 1 July and they aren't picking up signal (likely because electricity meter is in the cellar). Everyone at Octopus seems pretty insistent you need a smart meter for it but I've definitely seen posts from people who don't have them...I queried this with Octopus and they said pre-February you didn't need one but because of the influx of customers to this particular tariff their system now needs everyone on a smart meter. They didn't seem to be able to provide an answer as to what would happen to anyone who was currently using it with a dumb meter so sounds a bit fishy to me!

    Any info appreciated!

You need a smart meter to join the tariff now.

If you switched to the tracker before the requirement to have a smart meter came in, you continue on the tariff as it wasn't needed when you joined.

My friend bought something on a special offer six months ago, but when I looked at the price today the offer wasn't on.

Sounds a bit fishy to me.

I had to have smart meters fitted to renew my tracker although I asked to renew before they were actually fitted and working.

Did your v3 actually end before your smart meters were in and working?

V3 ends this week. Octopus say my meters aren’t communicating but my usage appears on my app and Octo-Aid every day. It’s just the IHD that’s not working. Waiting to see if they will send an engineer out. Not too bothered as long as it shows on the app.

Tracker gas prices have been creeping up in recent days. Back to 4.25p/kWh for me.
    Still relatively cheap, though!

The high heat has knocked down solar production a bit and there's been very little wind. More gas is needed to supply electricity so prices rise as demand is greater.

As you say, still quite cheap though.

Incredibly, it’s also down to the increased use of air conditioning in this hot weather.
