  • I see now that those on a decent version of the tracker, it can be a double edged sword but for the many that have only just converted, like myself, it won't be such a dilemma
  • I’ve been seeing more stuff about this tracker rate. In fact it was seeing it on hotukdeals that’s made me look more at it.

I’m currently with EDF for gas and electric on their SVR and have a smart meter installed and considering switching to Octopus so I can then move to their tracker tarried.

What are the opinions or real world experiences of those of you currently on it? Worth switching from EDF to Octopus?

You won't find many unhappy Octopus customers.

I moved to them last April after I had my solar/battery fitted because they paid the best prices for export. I soon realised that they also offered great Time of Use tariffs that worked for me so switched electricity onto Agile in June.

I thought I'd give Tracker a go for my gas in July. Paid a bit extra over summer but my use was only 3-5kWh a day so not a problem and since October it's been cheaper than SVT the majority of the time, a big win over winter.

  • octopus are a great company anyway and very few people have any complaints.

I paid up to the cap last August and September but was using very little gas or electricity (I have a small solar installation). I got really twitchy at that point but the EPG from 1st October brought the caps down so since then we have either paid the same as SVR or less. It’s definitely a winner and I have probably saved around £400 in total.

I’m not sure that swapping backwards and forwards is an option. I was told I could leave at any time but wouldn’t be allowed back if I did.
  • We’ve just had our DD increased slightly by EDF to £199 pm from £166 which I sort of expected. In fact I expected a touch higher.

When I reviewed the expected monthly cost from Octopus on the flexible tariff it was a touch higher at £225 but that’s about what I thought our EDF bill would be going up to anyway.

I had all sorts of trouble with our last switch from BG to EDF a few years ago and our smart meter stopped working and took about 9 months to sort out. What’s the switch to Octopus like?

For me last March, switched 14 days after request as planned (you had to have the cool down wait back then) Everything was showing online after a couple of days

Now I believe the 14 days can be waived and switches happen in a couple of days.

I switched to Octopus back in September and it took 2 days. Switched to tracker early January and have saved a lot since as my gas use is fairly high.
  • The faster switch thing is good news. Last time I switched it took ages and we had to wait about a month for gas to switch over and start showing.

  • That's a question I would like to find the answer for too... If I switch from the tracker to flexible tariff, can you then switch back to tracker? How much notice is required?

I was told that if you leave tracker you can’t go back on it. Maybe if they introduce a new version you might get that one.
