PNELancs said:When I asked a few questions of Octopus on Twitter, they put the following paragraph in their reply. Does this only apply if you don’t have a smart meter?Market spikes can send Tracker prices up to 100p/kWh for electricity or 30p/KWh for gas – that’s three times higher than most customers are paying right now on variable tariffs like Flexible Octopus. Something to bear in mind as well is that you get charged for the monthly average of all the daily readings, not on a day-to-day basis.1

Can someone double clarify one point for me, before I switch.
I’m only talking gas here and have a smart meter (electricity on go).
Octopus tell me “Something to bear in mind as well is that you get charged for the monthly average of all the daily readings,”
Is that the case with a smart meter? I’ve read back through the pages here and some really helpful explanations there, and believe with a smart meter I’d benefit from daily pricing, but just want to be absolutely sure I understood this correctly.
Thanks.0 -
If every reading gets picked up from the smart meter, then you'll get the actual daily rates, if a few days are missing they might need use the average.
The prices don't change much and tend to move up or down by fractions of pennies each day, so 6.49 to 6.72 rather than 2.56 to 9.87. If Octopus do have to use averages it doesn't actually make much difference to the total amount you pay and could work in your favour.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
