AFAIK, you can go on Tracker for either fuel type, or both.

Yep, we are (no gas here either).

When I asked a few questions of Octopus on Twitter, they put the following paragraph in their reply. Does this only apply if you don’t have a smart meter?

Market spikes can send Tracker prices up to 100p/kWh for electricity or 30p/KWh for gas – that’s three times higher than most customers are paying right now on variable tariffs like Flexible Octopus. Something to bear in mind as well is that you get charged for the monthly average of all the daily readings, not on a day-to-day basis.

I'm on Tracker without a smart meter. I read my meter weekly, (every Sunday), occasionally more frequently if Day Ahead prices are likely to spike intensively or I'm going to be away. I get billed weekly which is paid out of my monthly DD accumulated balance, thus averages are fairly on the mark.  It's become a habit now.

Unfortunately the Octopus website currently says they can’t find any tariffs for my postcode 🤦🏼‍♀️
Known bug, logout of your Octopus account then log back in and retry, should work fine.

Can someone double clarify one point for me, before I switch.

I’m only talking gas here and have a smart meter (electricity on go).

    Octopus tell me “
Something to bear in mind as well is that you get charged for the monthly average of all the daily readings,”

Is that the case with a smart meter? I’ve read back through the pages here and some really helpful explanations there, and believe with a smart meter I’d benefit from daily pricing, but just want to be absolutely sure I understood this correctly.

    Thanks.

If every reading gets picked up from the smart meter, then you'll get the actual daily rates, if a few days are missing they might need use the average.

The prices don't change much and tend to move up or down by fractions of pennies each day, so 6.49 to 6.72 rather than 2.56 to 9.87. If Octopus do have to use averages it doesn't actually make much difference to the total amount you pay and could work in your favour.

Are Octopus still offering the tariff? I can't see it on our account, so I've just emailed to ask.

Tracker tariff has never shown as a tariff option for existing customers within online account/dashboard = nothing has changed.

Yes it is available, but you will not see it as an option in your account.
It is shown in the tariff list though... https://octopus.energy/tariffs/
Just enter post code, do not ask for a quote.
If it says 'no tariffs found' just log out of your Octopus account and then log back in again and retry.
