They are correct thats the risk, but the reality is thats not happened, but doesnt mean it cannot happen.PNELancs said:When I asked a few questions of Octopus on Twitter, they put the following paragraph in their reply. Does this only apply if you don’t have a smart meter?Market spikes can send Tracker prices up to 100p/kWh for electricity or 30p/KWh for gas – that’s three times higher than most customers are paying right now on variable tariffs like Flexible Octopus. Something to bear in mind as well is that you get charged for the monthly average of all the daily readings, not on a day-to-day basis.
If you very risk averse then tracker isnt for you, however if you keep monitoring it, you should be ok, its not going to go from say 20p unit one day then 100pence the next, its not that volatile, it would be gradual so you can see the trend.1 -

Not a risk at all for foreseeable future due to them believing that EPG reduction applies to this type of tariff ....0 -
Thanks, I inadvertently left that bit in their message - it was the monthly average part that confused me because I have a smart meter so should be able to get a different rate each day automatically. Of course the people on Twitter didn’t know that however, so presumably they’re covering all bases!Chrysalis said:

The Tracker tariffs were never deemed to be smart meter tariffs. The Octopus website used to say on its website that for non-smart metered homes, frequent meter readings would improve cost accuracy.PNELancs said:

I had a smart meter comms hub issue early last month when the hub became silent after a quarterly firmware update ( no WAN or HAN but all LEDs flashing normally). I provided daily manual readings for Gas Tracker and I received a statement each day.1 -
Question......in terms of keeping an eye on unit rates, do the tracker unit rates change daily (i.e at midnight every 24 hours) or do they change constantly? In other words, do you get a whole day of knowing what rates you are paying or is it literally one moment to the next? Thanks''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0

The app is Octopus Compare for the Agile alerts.0 -
We must be looking at two different apps. This is a screenshot from Octo-Aid which clearly shows my Octopus Tracker Gas costs - along with imported and exported electricity. As I say, I get a notification at about 6pm each day of the following day’s gas Tracker unit price:KTF said:

PS: if you press on the gas tab (top right) it switches between gas and electricity.1 -
Then I must be imagining the alert I got from Octo-Aid with the Tracker price yesterday evening...KTF said:
