On an averaged out basis I think its superior to Agile, every time you have reported the tracker rates its at least 3-4p below the average cost on my Agile graph. :)

Today my average cost (dashed line) is about 31.5p.

Agile works for people with solar/batteries but no EV. I can top up the battery during the cheaper time slots and avoid using grid power at peak times. E7 might also work in this situation.

Not seen any comments about the policy here, plenty elsewhere, just wondering what others think about Octopus launching a new October version ( not currently available to new switches) where they have reduced electricity kWh by about 17p despite rules that we have seen crystal clear that  EPG reduction should not reduce kWh below regional average of 34p kWh.

    Octopus Tracker October 2022 v1

    Electricity Unit rate:9.98 p/kWh
      Standing charge:41.61 p/day
    Gas Unit rate:1.59 p/kWh
      Standing charge:26.84 p/day

Good Energy, Ecotricity etc variable rates can be reduced by the full 17p kWh due to fact still above 34p kWh after reduction.

Most of us will all be paying for EPG costs, some of us will not be getting any benefit due to rule in first paragraph.

The argument that Octopus Tracker October 2022 v1 kWh can go up to 100p kWh is knocked out by fact those on it can switch to flexible Octopus at any time.

Octopus also appear to be applying 17p kWh reduction 4pm -7pm Agile Octopus October 2022 v1 even when kWh rate is around 35p before reduction.

  • My gas here in Yorkshire is 5.96p/kWh today. Again pleased with this, with how cold it was last few days i was expecting higher tbh!

Wholesale DA down today, so, for me, tomorrow's electricity UR will be 22.61p/kWh (today it's 28.56p/kWh).

    Hi
After a dispute with Octopus they have agreed to put me on a historical Tracker which, from reading comments on here, seemed like a good move. Now that I am on it I realise I don't really understand how I find out what I am paying.
They gave me this site "you can see the cost forecast here"
but I have no idea how to use it.
I have got the Lipman site too and will have to spend some time trying to work that out too. Is there an "idiots "guide somewhere for the likes of me which find this all a bit baffling.
I used to like setting up a spreadsheet to track my costs but not sure how that will work now. I am told " it takes the wholesale costs across the month and charges you on the the average"

Any help would be great if you can spare any time.
    Thanks

You can see your daily unit rate in My Account either online or via the App. If the price for your supply region exceeds your agreed Cap, the App will just show the capped unit price. If you have a smart meter, the price shown is the price billed: for non smart metered homes, Octopus uses an average unit price based on the daily prices. Ignore the daily forecast page.

I am not sure that Tracker lends itself to a spreadsheet. Worst case, your gas will cost you the capped price times the number of units consumed.
  • Congratulations Teena sounds like you’ve got a good deal. Your online account will tell the price each day under Tariffs. It will also tell you which tariff they’ve put you on which would help giving you advice if you could post here Don’t worry too much yet about the forecasts for tomorrow. Often it’s posted here anyway. Today and tomorrows Gas tracker is about 6.00pkw/hr depending on your region.
  • Sorry I meant to say the Gas Tracker is about 5p
