There is no advantage to Octopus if they know what is happening but aren't releasing it. So take it as truth when they tell you they don't know. What's the rush??

Are people waiting to be outraged if the tariff isn't reduced? If you don't want to pay higher prices you already have the option to leave, fee free, and take up SVR, with certainty of price going forward. Or chance staying on the current tariff; it's the same decision as when you joined it in the first place, except SVR is no longer (for the time being) a moving target.

They don't have the clarification from the government body, what's so hard to understand about that?

They can't promise something and then find the gaurantee doesn't cover it else they'll be out of pocket.
