the title made me chuckle and as i post, lol. sorry just being honest.
if someone did that to me i'd smash the chips over their head, not literally of course.1 -
I live in the south - fish and chips costs the best part of a tenner - not including peas, gravy etc. You should have given him his £5 back - he did not ask you to buy food for him!

Whether you cook for each other or it's a takeaway - it's the same thing.
I don't blame him.1 -
Two things-you haven't paid him back and you are no longer his "mate"1

What in Cod's name were you thinking?1

Is this the pick of the week dilemma-wise? Mmmhh.
Yes, petty as this thread is, wrong would appear to be the unanimous consensus.1 -
I would have just given him the £5 back and not used it to buy fish and chips. **Fish and chips costs way more than £5 where live**.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.671

He needed the case and you let him down don’t ever do that again and learn a valuable lesson in respectfulness.0

I agree, you shoiuld have given him the option of money or dinner, not to just assume it was ok to spend HIS £5 on what you decide. Give him his £5, small amount to lose a friend over. He was good enough to lend it, you should be good enough to pay it back.0
