  • I'd be really irritated if it was being suggested to me how I spend my money which I don't want to spend.
    My other half is actually the opposite and reminds me that my savings are for my future pretty often which keeps me on track..........I'm not sure I would react well if it was any other way.
    I'd be inclined to tell him I've locked it off in a no access account and thats the end of it

    Wasgijs are much more MSE than watches!
    And I agree it is slightly irritating, but I hope it calms down once he’s got used to it! I try not to think about money that isn’t mine and never resented he is earning more, he does pay out a bit more in bills and I’m grateful for that. I never pass judgement on what he spends as I expect to fritter or save my own without having to explain!

    Passing thought....do you have a joint savings account at all? The late MrC and I kept our main finances separate and we each had household bills that we paid but we did have one joint savings account that we saved house renovation and fun money into. Maybe it would stop Mr WW moaning if you agreed a "thing to do" or a bucket list, a target date and a savings plan for his or your ideas and saved in a separate joint account for them. That way when when he wants something else you can tell him to add it to the list or change the priority of things already on the list.

    This plan works for singletons too. I have my own list of places to go and I have a savings account for it.

    My friend collects VERY expensive watches & maybe wears one once a year.  Started off over 50 years ago when someone couldn't pay what he owed & gave him a watch instead.  Unlike my collection of nearly 70 Wasgijs (a kind of jigsaw) which makes total sense!
    I love and hate Wasjigs at the same time!

    @CRANKY40 we have a small house pot for repairs. Generally anything he wants is for his hobby, rather than joint things, so a joint saver would just be me saving for his stuff 😬

    I received a wasgij for my birthday. Much more appreciated than a watch and much cheaper.

    Challenge him. Tell him you will save but it has to be for things that you both want to do.  Some of my list is to go to Memphis and visit Graceland, stay at the Peabody Hotel and see the duck march, go to New Orleans to see voodoo things and to visit Inverness with my sister. Failing that make your own wish list along side of his and show him so at least he'll know that you can't afford to fund his list. Do you want to come on my bucket list trips instead. I'll let you off Inverness if you like - probably a bit close to home 🤣

    Lol, even Inverness is a pita to get to, I don’t like to leave the dog for a full day anymore so I have learnt to live without m&s 😬
    what on earth is a duck March? I really want to see that! Voodoo things are really interesting, but don’t upset anyone (or trust anyone sacrificing a chicken) 😦
    Ive never been huge on travel…a week is my limit, 10 days and I’m desperately home sick!
    tbh I don’t know what I would save for, everyday frittering is my thing and now my long term car fund goal.
    He’s not wanting joint savings, he was just rather interested in mine. But next year he will be in the position to pay his stuff off and have some himself (if it doesn’t go on the hobby) so I expect all will be well with the world then. He’s actually being very good, just a comment spills out every now and again 🙄

    @Baileys_Babe and @badmemory I have a few 1000 piece jigsaws I haven’t started yet, but no wasgijs…I love the snowy/Christmas scenes.
