Hi everyone. I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and new year.
Dear WW dog was ailing over Christmas, we had vets visits to the house as she couldnβt travel. She was having trouble sleeping alone and we spent a lot of nights up with her. One night she wanted to lay in the kitchen and I camped out with her on the floor so she could sleep. We let her go two weeks ago. The vet came to us and we held her while she slipped away. She had a mass in her tummy so I donβt think she would have lasted much longer, but wanted to spare her if I could. She has left a massive gap in our lives and after over 14 years of being a dog mum I do feel quite rudderless and like Iβve lost my identity.ΒThe other day the thought came into my head that I need to find something to do or Iβll die of sadness..which is incredibly dramatic, yet I keep repeating it to myself. So I am finally going to decorate the utility room and have bought some stick on tiles to go behind the bins and some fancy wallpaper. Itβs not going to be a quiet room! I did cry yet more tears when I scrubbed the mud off the wall from WW dogs winter garden walks, but Iβm ready to get going with the paint at the weekend.
In money news ynab is still my friend. What a game changer! I am still waiting for the final vets bill and cremation charges to come through and I think it will be a big one, but obviously never thought to ask at the time. I googled average charges and think it might be around Β£800. So I will need to take that from savings, but otherwise all is pretty good. I am sticking to the underconsumption idea and everytime I look at something I am thinking will I wear it, do I have something similar, etc. And then stepping away.ΒI got a Nintendo switch for Christmas and I think itβs my best present ever. It seems to be saving me money as I am playing that a lot instead of doomscrolling and being tempted to buy things.
I donβt really have too much to report really apart from utter sadness, a 6lb weight gain I canβt shake and a tick in the box on the money front. Last year I hardly saved anything and it does worry me that if I need to replace my car I would be a bit stuck, so 2025 will hopefully be the year of the savings. I am saving much slower with ynab, but equally have less need to take anything back as I am keeping the sinking funds topped up (nearly Β£2k in there across categories) and giving my self a decent amount of spending money, grocery fund, gifts pot, etc. So I have no need to slip back.ΒI hope you are all well and happy. I will catch up on the diaries at lunch time, but really must get up and ready for work now.ΒNot all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

WW thatβs such sad news. Animals, especially dogs, are such a part of our families that they take a bit of our hearts with them. Thinking of you both and sending hugs.Β2
