    I don't touch canned soup.  Mostly because I can taste the can.  I also like my soup thick enough to stand the spoon up in but don't like it lumpy.  I use left over curry or chilli or spaghetti etc & whizz it & add anything else as the spirit moves me & fridge contents dictate.  Oh & I love crisps particularly the meaty crinkle cut ones from one of the cheaper supermarkets, especially the change of flavour ones they have now.

    I've never had a soup maker, it has always seemed like yet another piece of kit to keep in my small kitchen.

    As a footnote, does anyone know why pans today are shallower than they used to be.  My 2 very old 20cm pans have sprung leaks & all the new ones are at least 1 cm shallower & anything wider seems to only have those small double handles that are impossible to stir without burning yourself.

    @badmemory and the non stick doesn’t last 2 minutes on newer ones ☹️
    I think they hope we’ll replace them more often instead of keeping them forever 🤔

    I used to make my soup in a pan then blend it but a few years ago I bought a soup maker and never looked back. I just bung in the ingredients, switch it on and 20 minutes later I’ve got a pot of very nice soup. I usually make a batch on a Sunday and take to work for lunch. Although while I’m WFH I make the soup shortly before lunchtime on a Monday. It’s a great way to get rid of leftover veg.

    Thank you to everyone who has been part of the nutrition and soup discussion. I need to have a serious look at my diet. I used to make soup regularly but I have got out of the habit. Reintroducing soup sounds like a plan and @Sun_Addict tomato, lentil and vegetable appeals and will be the first I make.

    I use a pan and a hand blender

    It’s a Morphy Richards, had it a few years now. If it broke down I’d definitely get another.

    I've never had a soup maker, I will look into it but I really don't have any more counter/storage space, so probably won't happen.
    I dropped the dog at the groomers and went into the Lidl next door to buy fruit for the boys. Got some stringless beans, if anyone here has any recipe suggestions they are more than welcome. They have a spinning wheel thingy in the app, you get a go after each shop and this time I won a 50% off  voucher for a bag of hand cooked crisps. Ok then, if I have to :D

    Thank you, I think I have a morphy Richards in my saved for later basket from ages ago. I like the idea of deciding if it should be chunky or smooth, but with no messing with blenders.
    50% off crisps…it would be rude not to 😁

    If you do decide to get a soup maker @WinterWarrior then look at John Pye auctions as well as the usual MSE go tos- you have to be aware that you'll pay an extra 20% on vat and then 5% for 'hammer price' on the item but there are loads and loads of kitchen gadgets on there for really cheap amounts. I've got my eye on about 6 Kenwood food processors at the moment and all of them are currently listing at under £10.
    Bottom line;
    £49k paid off
    Car HP paid off

  • I don't have a soup maker but I do have an instant pot (electric pressure cooker). It has a sauté function so I sauté all the veg etc for a few minutes, then add water and let the pressure cooking do its thing while I do other stuff (only needs 10 minutes!), then use an immersion blender to finish it off. It's really easy as the whole part where you have to stand at the cooker and stir is skipped. And it's a much more versatile piece of kit than a soup maker. Just my two cents! :)
