WinterWarrior said:@badmemory did you set up a standing order? I want to leave it as an ad hoc/whenever I have something spare transaction if I can.
No standing order. I just go into my premium bond account & tell it to take some on my debit card. The advantage is having it pending on my debit card whilst received by the premium bond account, rather than the other way around & I can't accidentally put it into the wwrong NS&I account. Being a champion procrastinator, it can make the difference between getting it in before the deadline & not doing!

I see. So far I have done the same, using my debit card on the ns&i page and then having it pending, but I do have to fill in my card details each time. It does seem to be preferable to have it showing in the bonds balance straight away. Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I was thinking about what you said a few days ago and, with the hope I won't sound preachy, I wanted to share my opinion based on (probably obsesive) research on food in the last few years. Please feel free to skip over it if you don't need it and I'm not trying to say I know everyhting, far from it. Especially since I've been slacking on the food research front while focusing on debt busting.
The crisps might have a small amount of calories but they are empty calories, won't feed you. If anything, they will spike up your insulin and make you feel hungry again soon. A veggie/lentil soup will nourish your body and keep you full, while also making your gut really happy. And you know what they say - happy gut, happy life!
I am not always following my advice, I really don't like cooking. I don't hate it but find it a complete waste of time. My husband used to enjoy it until he had to do it multiple times a day everyday during lockdown. My boys, Boy1 mostly, are fussy and while we're a long way from his youghurt and banana only days we could still do better. I have some sad looking carrots in the fridge so I will make a soup like the one @Sun_Addict suggested, I have canned tomatoes, lentils in all colours (I buy them then not cook them but they should still be ok I think!) and I'm sure I can find other veggies to bulk it up with.

@jokono so preachy! 🤣🤣🤣 Only kidding, I love all the interaction on my diary and welcome all thoughts, advice, ramblings…it’s what makes it such a lovely diary, even if I do say so myself 😬 (head rambler here!)
so, yes, I totally get what you’re saying about empty (yummy, lovely) calories, but I find it very difficult to not love them 😢. I’ve never made soup, so I have a question for you…does canned soup with all its additives do, or is that really just as bad? I do all the cooking, but I can’t say I’m enthusiastic about it, I wish I was!Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I too have to agree with @jokono and @Sun_Addict - those crisps are nothing calories. Your body deserves better.
If you already know theyre less than ideal, then maybe prepare the soups/stews as others have mentioned and set your self a rule.
If you need to eat those crisps, because you know theyre not going to help you reach your goals, you agree with yourself that you have a bowl of soup first.
If you still want them after the soup (giving it a few minutes to register with your brain you've eaten) then have them however i suspect the itch will soon die off after a few days.
If it doesn't and you still need them, eat half the packet of crisps so that you're not denying yourself what you want/(need) but save the other half for tomorrow, to eat after your soup.
See how you go with the ultimate goal of 'introducing some more nutritious food' into your diet.
Lastly, as a nutrition coach (side hussle to main job) i would say even if you didnt move from a chair all day, unless you are eating a whole tub of icecream for dinner; you are severely under eating. Your body will to be used to this, hence no real weight loss/plateau however long term i would suggest reviewing things a little to ensure your body gets what it needs.
You could also decide to tell us all to naff off and leave you and your crisps alone - that would also be fineFollow here for the daily life of an ADHD mum with 2 children and a new mortgage to pay

I've never had canned soup to be honest. I've been a very fussy eater myself and only had one type of soup my mum used to make, never liked vegetbales except cucumber and raw carrots. I started eating better when I got pregnant, started eating more veggies either fresh or cooked, so canned soup never had a chance
I imagine canned soups come in various types, some better than others? I tried the supermarket fresh soups that come in a tub or carton, some of them are really nice. But soups are very easy to cook if that's what you worry about?

@MissRikkiC the calories alway add up to more than I need. Really I only lose weight on 1400 or less and this is always more. I do need to get to a much healthier place. Slimming world helped with that, but I just got so tired of cooking everything from scratch I abandoned ship. I would never tell you to naff off, I appreciate the feedback. If I could shake this stone I would be happily breathing in my size 12s 😬
