Filled in a self assessment for the first time ever a few weeks ago (it took them a long time to issue my UTR). I'm PAYE employed so the SA was not complicated, but I am due a tax refund for overpaying last year.

The thing that is confusing me is it says "Repayment Pending" with the date "21st January 2022"*, I told them in the SA to pay any refunds directly to my bank account.

Does this mean I have to wait until January 2022 to get my refund?

note - I filled the SA in online - NOT paper based.

EDIT: * sorry made a typo - the date says "31st January 2022"

Was it definitely 21 January and not 31 January?

And was the refund due from your Self Assessment calculation or did you make some sort of unusual claim?
  • sorry made a typo it was 31st January

Refund was from self assessment calculation - yes, I overpaid last year.
  • I think that just relates to the fact that 31 January is the deadline, nothing to do with when you will receive the actual repayment.
