@Sweetgirl2015  I am expecting a huge swing from night time to daytime use  if the units are not "charging" at night  - perhaps  what was 1200 kWh at night; 200 at day for a winter month last year which might have been charged @10 p night/ 16 p day and cost £150    is now 100 (immersion heater ?) at night, 1300 at day  and cost £220.

The £85 is probably a year around figure - quite possibly £150 in winter / £20 in summer.
Well to put it another way, we have never had to increase the payments before, but I have to now to catch up.
But I dont agree how the heaters need to work during the day this is the key problem to me
And the fact they seem to lose their heat a lit quicker than our old ones. They seem to be gone cold by 10am and are trying to maintain a certain room temp. They are just very inefficient compared to our old ones.
We just need the company that fitted them who was behind the grant to sort something out otherwise we will be stuck with high bills forever.
£8 a day for electric simply isnt sustainable.

Could it be that these are just Elnur panel / convectors and not storage heaters at all?  On E7 day rates.

@sweetgirl2015 can you quote the model names / numbers?

I will for you when I'm home. Well we had 4 night storage heaters fitted and 3 convector ones. We haven't used the convector ones yet.

@sweetgirl2015  Could you give us the model numbers please - should be a plate on the heater itself.   For a heater to be cold at 1000 it is suggesting to me that these are actually convector heaters and not storage.

How are you progressing with the meter readings ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • It just says ECOHHR20 on a silver plate at the bottom.
My day rate is 18.83 pk/wh
    Night rate is: 10.77 pk/wh
    Tarrif name  Flexible Octopus v1.
But when I rang Octopus they insisted this is the best tarrif for us which is the economy 7 one.

They are good rates, but I guess they will go up on April 1st.  I am on Octopus fixed and getting slightly more adverse rates than you.  More important than the cost is the consumption.  If you manage your account on line you can look at previous meter readings and determine if the CONSUMPTION for the day and night periods has increased since installation of the new heaters and can easily see if they have inadvertently been switched around.

    ECOHHR20 does seem very sophisticated.

I believe you said you had 3 of these. They are 1.74 Kw units - assuming they take 3 hours each to charge that would be that's about 16 kWh per night  -  a bit under £2 a night.  Even if they were on a full 7 hours = £6;; that won't/can't due to thermostats.

The set up has to be questioned. They shouldn't be cold by 1000

It sounds like you have failed to read and understand the instructions, using both peak and off peak electricity unlike your previous heaters that only used off peak.

    USER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Please read all the instructions carefully before installing or using the heater for the first time and retain for future use.

    Default Weekly Program

The ECOHHR storage heater has been preset with a weekly program designed to give comfort level heating throughout the day and is based on the following times. From 00:00 till 07:00am the program runs in economy mode at 18°C, from 07:00am till 22:00pm the program runs at the Comfort temperature of 21°C and from 22:00pm till 24:00pm will run in economy mode.

    ECOHHR Current Status Function

The ECOHHR has a function that allows you check the current status of the heater. This function allows you to see what temperature the heater is currently measuring the room to be, the current core temperature, the air temperature at the grille, the percentage of charge the heater tried to take last period and how long the balancing element has been used for during the last on peak time.

To check the current Status : Press and Release the sun and the moon buttons together. The display will now show the current room temperature that the sensor is measuring. Now Press and Release the plus button to see the current Core temperature. Now Press and Release the plus button to see the current Air temperature at the grille. Now Press and Release the plus button to see the amount of the last charge percentage the heater did. Now Press and Release the plus button to see how long the balancing element has been on during the last 24hrs.
