Staying local

And another bit from it:
"TravelYou must not leave your home unless you have a reasonable excuse (for example, for work or education purposes). If you need to travel you should stay local. This means you should avoid travelling outside of your village, town or the part of a city where you live. You should reduce the number of journeys you make overall."Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
@justworriedabit
Yup I've read the entire thread thank you. As I said if you are so sure that there is a published legal definition of local in the context of the coronavirus legislation then feel free to provide it. Every definition I've come across is in the context of guidance not legislation, which is what pretty much every poster in this thread has been saying.0 -
I really do not think it is anywhere close to 90% of the population, maybe at a push two thirds, but in reality I expect that it is now less than half.justworriedabit said:I see 90% of the population wanting to follow the rules and make every effort like me my family etc to shop online, avoid the supermarket, parks, etc - i rarely go out for a walk - we've not been to anyones homes etc as per rules.
It has already been stated what the law is, but the issue was that some posters were not happy with that, they wanted black and white absolutes, where the law and guidance does not provide that and where a definitive answer can no be given. There are specific reasons why the law does not lay out rules on absolute distance, council areas, postcodes etc.justworriedabit said:What is wrong with wanting to know what the law is and therefore making an informed decision? EG even if the rules mean 20 miles, trust me, we'd still stay at home as before but its nic to know that possibly during the week on a colder day when hardly anyone is about we go in our own transport for a walk, etc to the beach.
Those things are very easy to quantify and specify, how far is local is not. In London what is local is far closer than in rural Devon or the Lake District. In the Yorkshire Dales one could be 50 miles from the nearest supermarket, where as in London a 50 mile restriction would place you within a huge number of locations.justworriedabit said:When I am driving- it really helps when there are clear speed signs there stating 40/50mph etc etc it does not mean I will exceed the 40 in a 40 zone but I will be aware of the rules and 100% ensure I adhere to them.
When paying our bills, there is always a date and we always pay before the date - what would you do if you got a bill and there were penalties if you did not pay but no dates given and then you was fined?
I think you will be waiting a long time as no one has a definition, even the police and courts have found most fines, when challenged in court have not been upheld specifically because "local" can not be defined.justworriedabit said:I've more than made my case for myself and like minded people and really happy with that and await the Gov link that defines "local" as stated by the poster.4 -

I know, but some people want things handed to them on a pudding bowl to satisfy their sweet nature!silvercar said:

Just hope people don’t drive to the bloody beaches. The places can’t cope with thousands queuing for takeaways, toilets and parking.silvercar said:

How far was Johnson from home when he was out on his bike the other day?
7 miles I seem to recall. So local is a pretty big area.0 -

"You should minimise the time you spend outside your home, and you should not travel outside your local area."Last summer Cornwall was rammed. My daughter returned from there saying social distancing was often non-existent, especially in shops, where owners keen to recoup money lost earlier in the season did not enforce customer limits. All sorts of dire predictions were made then about a Cornwall spike, which didn't happen.0 -
You misunderstand. Boris is a member of the elite; the rules are completely different for them.[DELETED USER] said:How far was Johnson from home when he was out on his bike the other day?

You need to undestand when somebody is taking the pi$$Mickey666 said:
Thank goodness you're not involved in writing the statute books. Imagine being hauled in front of a judge after being charged with 'taking the pi$$'.shinytop said:I've got a simple four word rule for staying local that 95% of people should undestand. It is "Don't take the pi$$"
The other 5% need everything spelled out in minute detail and it's probably not worth the effort in the scale of things.
You need to understand that simple rules don't work in complex situations.
