I only mentioned the Basic charge card because it doesn't go into your "credit utilisation" since it has no credit limit.
At least that's how some other forum members explained it to me some time ago.
You can have multiple Amex cards. I've got the Everyday Platinum CC and I'm planning to apply for the Basic charge card too, just out of curiosity. :)

Anyone knows if Amex do new hard search for every new card? Or if they do it like Halifax? Hard search for the first product and then no more searches?  Is Halifax unique in this respect?

  • The charge cards are like a bank account on your credit file. So some credit reports Equifax will show it as up to date. I havent really looked on credit karma. On money supermarket club it is just shown as the amount on the card that month.
  • Sorry I cant remember the searches as its been some years since I applied.
You are correct you can have a few Amex cards.

My new way forward, only Amazon to add, though maybe not to Contactless.

Just bear in mind that Amazon CC is NewDay.... You might want to read some reviews before you apply. :#
Why? It's a great card. I've had it for probably just over a year - and have earned around £100 in Amazon vouchers. I also have another Newday card - and their service has been impeccable. The few times I needed to contact them by telephone, they were quick and efficient. Don't believe everything you read in reviews. Of course there will always be a few Victor Meldrews in the world who aren't satisfied even if someone brought them round some of the crown jewels in compensation. But those people can be found on any card providers feedback page. And yes things go wrong sometimes - but name a bank that has NEVER had ANYTHING go wrong, and has never had a customer complaint.

Amex Initial trust pilot reviews are positive, with a few negative- though of no  immediate concern.
Whilst I very quickly read some Amex site info today, i think it was stating upto four of their branded cards could be taken,
I'm going to close one or two non recent cards from Mon.
Amex+Amazon activated, only 2 pounds debit card payment to take advantage of 20 pounds Amazon e-voucher,  household item.

Well, it's NewDay. I haven't heard anything good about them.
I think a company like Amazon could have chosen a better partner to back their CC. NewDay is literally a garbage lender.

Well you’ve just heard something good about them from me - and no doubt you’ll hear plenty of positive stories from
    many other MSE’ers.

Why is it a garbage lender? Are you showing elements of credit card snobbery?

It caters for those rebuilding credit on some of its cards - something that Amex and other top end cards wouldn’t touch.

It also runs the Amazon card and from my experience does it very well. Being £100 up in vouchers can’t be bad. Where’s the garbage there?

And if we are trusting trust pilot - what do these indicate then? Garbage too?

I've read I'm sure on this forum that they haven't but looking at the form which doesn't appear any different for a new customer to apply I'm not sure. I've since read elsewhere they do pull a hard search.

Might be worth asking them on chat direct? Update us if you find out be good for people to know

Me, for example. I'm another Amazon credit card holder, and I'm also happy with NewDay. When I had cause to phone them, the lady with whom I spoke was pleasant, knowledgeable and very careful to ensure that she understood what I wanted and that I fully understood the effect of it. For day-to-day operation, their online servicing gives me all that I need. Statements are clear and well-presented. (In particular, it's easy to find the details of the next DD collection on them.)

I really couldn't ask for more.
  • Guys... A positive experience of one or two people is just an anecdotal evidence. It's always better to check reviews of hundreds or thousands of people.
I would agree that NatWest is junk too. Barclays... more or less. Amex at least has better rating than the two.

How come Revolut or Starling can have significantly higher rating from thousands of people? There definitely IS difference between various lenders. OK, Revolut is not a lender (yet), but still...

There are subprime lenders with much better ratings, for example:
