Cifas marker

The marker might no longer show on your credit files but banks and BS also keep their own records. The fact you tried and failed to open an account with Coventry BS because of a CIFAS marker could be kept on record by Coventry BS long after the CIFAS marker is removed from your credit files.Jamesyb123 said:
I’m so tempted to apply for the Coventry and then show you the letter when it gets closed but I don’t want any recent records with companies that I might want a mortgage from when the markers gone next year.BrownTrout said:
Your experience is not the norm though.Jamesyb123 said:I just hope the OP applies for a savings account with Coventry and then comes back to confirm that it was closed, just FYI after I had my marker I applied with 5 building societies including Coventry and they were all closed within a week of opening because of cifas. All I’m doing is speaking from experience.
Anyone who struggles because of a CIFAS marker should head to their local BS and open a passbook account unless they want to pay for some prepaid account!0 -
That’s why I have limited the amount of banks I have tried since having the marker I have left around 20 banks/building societies that I’ve had no dealings with so I can obtain a mortgageLover_of_Lycra said:

I’m pretty sure mine took 24 hours I dont think it’s checks it’s them actually setting up and opening the account, try and ring them they’re great on the phone it won’t effect it if they weren’t going to open it then phoning them wouldn’t change it. Just ring up and ask them how long it’ll be as you want to give your new bank details to employer before cut off0

Have you tried Monzo? I opened an account with them no probs with a cat 6 cifas marker. Also a joint account a few months later. My cifas drops off in May this year.0
