I’m a 19 year old, I tried to open a bank account and got rejected everywhere I requested a Cifas review and been told I have a “misuse of facility” market on my file from starling bank in may2020 I’ve never gave my details out and apparently it was from 3 payments I received in totalling £50 for a item of clothing, I’ve requested starling to have a look and review is as I can’t do anything now and it’s gonna effect me massivly in the future so as some got any help or could guide me in anyway, thanks

I wasn’t a money mule I’m not stupid like that I’ve seen all of that online and won’t fall for that, I simply sold items off clothing and a festival ticket online and received 3 payments into my bank account that literally had a total of about £55 and they blocked my account asked for everything said I sold clothing and can’t provide receipts as it was done in person so they put a Cifas marker on my file I’ve asked them to review it and they’ve said no there not removing it but I’ve never had any other financial trouble!
  • You won’t be able to get any financial product for 6 years from when it was recorded. Whether you’re at fault or you are innocent if you are at fault you need to face up to it and wait out your sentence. I can speak from experience as I’m 5 years in and have a year left on mine, same marker as you for chargebacks that weren’t valid. Learnt my lesson and this does teach you a hard lesson. It’ll effect certain jobs too. Luckily you’re young and have plenty of time to sort yourself out.
  • How do you go about getting paid your wages etc? As it’s really effecting me.what bank?

  • You can get basic bank accounts without any credit facilities however I would be complaining to the bank formally and going to the FOS if/when they reject the complaint as this is such a big impact from something totally innocent (based on what you tell us). I have cash from Christmas I need to pay into my bank, the idea of a CIFAS marker for doing that is laughable.
  • @Deleted_User you can’t even have a basic account with cifas marker I tried them all when I got my marker even basic accounts and they all get closed a day or 2 later when they do fraud checks.

According to this resource for people with criminal convictions even CIFAS markers can use accounts like Think Money and CardOneMoney
