Thank you all for your kind thoughts for the HT. NSD here today (much needed). I need to make brownies this morning then my best friend is coming for lunch which seems to be a regular Thursday thing now. I saw him briefly yesterday and he wants to go blackberry picking after lunch which has probably been inspired by the blackberry and apple crumble that I made last week.

Good morning all. NSD yesterday. It was a work day and then I went to my friend's house in the evening. I took the teens with me and a cool bag of beers and assorted drinks from the fridge so no money involved. I dropped the teens back home at 11pm (they claimed to be tired) and went back to my friend's house by myself. I haven't seen my mates for such a long time....it was 1am before I came home. I'm in a much better frame of mind than I was yesterday morning.

Despite being the last person home, I was the first person up at 7:30am and I currently have 4.5kg of combined sugar and blackberries doing their thing on the hob. All the jars (which were clean anyway) have been rewashed and sterilised so ready to go. Home made jam tastes so good. No sign of any teens as yet and the cat isn't happy because I won't let her go upstairs to find them.

After the jam will come biscuit making then this afternoon my best friend is calling in for coffee (and biscuits😊 ) so today will be another NSD spent indoors and in the garden.

Sometimes we all need to have time with friends to relax.

I do like making home made jam and the taste of it. We have a couple of damson trees nearby and I sometimes make jam with it. It tastes so much nicer

    Have a lovely day x

Thanks. The teens are awake now so the cat is happy. I get told off if I let her go upstairs too early. I've made 10 jars of bramble jelly so just having a quick teabreak before I carry on.

I love making blackberry & apple jam, @CRANKY40. I do make other jams too, but there is something so gloriously autumnal about that cauldron of purple loveliness bubbling away on the stove, especially knowing one has paid out only for the sugar!
I have quite a container of blackberries building up in the freezer. I might make some jam, but am also considering starting off some blackberry whisky for Mr F's birthday. I usually do fruit gins or vodka but when I tried out the same recipe but using whisky, both he & his B-in-L who was also gifted a bottle, snarfed it in no time & loved it. I do have a nice glass bottle which somebody gave me, which would be ideal, & have plenty of sugar, so would just need to buy the whisky. It only needs to be the cheapest, as it is going to be so tarted up with other ingredients. I love crumble & also like to make fruit sponge.....just stewed fruit on the bottom topped with a half quantity of victoria sponge mixture to which a tsp of almond extract has been added. Very nice hot out of the oven with a scoop of ice cream.

Thanks @foxgloves. The blackberry whisky sounds like our kind of thing and I still have a lot of blackberries. Could you let me have the quantities that you use please?

We've been having blackberry and apple crumble a fair bit too and I gave away some 2 portion sized crumbles in foil trays this week. They are so tasty. I love the cake idea too.

Cranky - is the cat so considerate in the morning if you want a sleep in?  Mine aren't - they create havoc as a duo - one on my head, one on my feet.  As soon as they've been fed they retire to their room (aka the spare bedroom) and take to their bed (aka the spare bed) for the day, until it's teatime, then they circle like sharks until fed.
