Same here. We had resisted subscribing to any streaming service but lockdown has revealed the dire state of terrestrial TV. Jury is out on whether we will continue subscribing to Netflix but the one month free sub for Prime is being well used.cfw1994 said:I guess another new expenditure has been Netflix & Disney+ for us.
Already had Prime as a family (& Spotify - it's all about monthly outgoings now, eh!), but Disney+ came are precisely the right time - have good memories of doing the entire Marvel Universe (minus the one or two missing!), Jeff Goldblum's weird world and LOTS more.
Looking forward to those two chairs to make it more comfy in the film lounge now!

We are tier 7 so no expectations of a first dose until mid March at the earliest. We are hopeful that we may receive dose 2 before our week in the Dales in July, and assuming the Fun Police don't cancel UK holidays this year. It was re-booked after cancellation last May.
We now refer to the Dales as a mystical place. This is the third time we have had to cancel Dales trips in the last five years so we are beginning to think it doesn't actually exist except in the imagination of James Herriot.3 -
Not gone for Disney but we have Netflix, Britbox, Prime Video and Discovery Plus!!!cfw1994 said:I guess another new expenditure has been Netflix & Disney+ for us.

Ha, my worst nightmare. I like to sit down, clap gently at the end and leave in an orderly fashionSea_Shell said:Stubod said:..I think overcoming some of the "psychological" issues of being in lockdown for 12 months + will become a problem in itself
Like being at a standing gig, rammed in like sardines...we used to take it in our stride and not bat an eyelid.
All we were worried about was not spilling our beer!!! 🍺
Now, sadly, many people are afraid of their own shadows. ☹️

Lockdown 1 - replaced carpets with laminate flooring plus decking.
Self employed but v little income for 4/5 months so no excess up to August. OH took on 3 contracts so now f/t+ as no opportunity for regular overseas holidays. So now excess income, no hols and extra into pensions to fund travel when it is safer as both over 55.

Could always increase your charitable giving, of course...Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!2

...yep, doing that...mainly to local food banks...

I've used this period of reduced expenditure to clear the decks for retirement.
I couldn't make up my mind about when, the pandemic put the decision off, largely because I felt I was doing something of value, but I decided at Christmas it was time to go. I have two weeks left and I'm full of all the doubts about whether I have done the right thing.
This is an interesting article. £250 billion has gone into savings and estimates of how much will be spent or 'splurged' range from 5 to 20%.

It was just an example...
I bet you (we all) can think of something you used to do, indoors, in a fairly crowded area, with people occasionally coughing and sneezing in your proximity that you used to have absolutely no problem with (other than maybe being mildly annoyed), which has either been banned during the pandemic, or severely restricted.
Even when we are able to do these things again, will we want to, and how long will the "scars" of Covid last, mentally.
How long before it's no longer in our day to day thoughts? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)1 -
Gigs is one of the things we are missing most as it is something we do regularly - we were sardining it at the Roundhouse for Holy Holy a couple of days before lockdown 1. We had several others booked which have been rescheduled several times and then mostly cancelled - we have a few in Oct/Nov which might happen but I am sure July won't. RHS Chelsea has moved to September - that was to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary after our 20th was a washout.
I miss gigs but even seeing a crowd on TV looks strange these days - like when you see someone smoking at work in a movie. We are over 50 so April seems to be the schedule for the jab if they can keep making it at the current pace.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
