Yup you're right. I'm normally OK with sitting in an aeroplane for 9 hours or squeezing onto a crowded bus. I think it will be a long time for most, although judging by the behaviour of some people in shops, it's definitely not in their day to day thoughts now and probably never was!Sea_Shell said:shinytop said:
Ha, my worst nightmare. I like to sit down, clap gently at the end and leave in an orderly fashionSea_Shell said:Stubod said:..I think overcoming some of the "psychological" issues of being in lockdown for 12 months + will become a problem in itself
Like being at a standing gig, rammed in like sardines...we used to take it in our stride and not bat an eyelid.
All we were worried about was not spilling our beer!!! 🍺
Now, sadly, many people are afraid of their own shadows. ☹️
It was just an example...
I bet you (we all) can think of something you used to do, indoors, in a fairly crowded area, with people occasionally coughing and sneezing in your proximity that you used to have absolutely no problem with (other than maybe being mildly annoyed), which has either been banned during the pandemic, or severely restricted.
Even when we are able to do these things again, will we want to, and how long will the "scars" of Covid last, mentally.
How long before it's no longer in our day to day thoughts?2 -
I also miss the buzz of a sold out venue. Be that for sports, theatre, gigs or festivals.
Or even just village summer fairs, or firework displays.
Actually I've just remembered.....RUNNING...in a race. Park Runs are what I'm waiting for....the buzz on the start line.
I did the London Marathon a few years ago, and the buzz in the starting pens was amazing....and yes, we were pretty closely packed together, until you gradually get to shuffle along and spread out!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)3 -
When our ski hols were canned in Lockdown v1.0 and we booked the hot tub, Quarantine Tubatino, we agreed to donate the price of that to a Food Bank charity.....& my company had a triple bonus on donations at that point, which was pretty generous of them!Marcon said:Could always increase your charitable giving, of course...Gigs....oh yeah, a few already cancelled/postponed, including Latitude in late July....hoping that will be able to go ahead, it is a proper relaxed faintly middle class festival (heck, most are nowadays, given the cost of the tickets!), but I’m not betting the farm on it happening.
On the topic of crowding...I reckon about two-thirds of the Country will want to leap back on a plane to ‘paradise’, whilst the other portion I’m in will remain resolutely keeping our distance in the UK, hunting out quiet pubs & restaurants, still washing hands furiously! My money is on the two thirds (with our calmer help, of course) also sparking a mini-boom in markets, and keeping our stock-market-based investments continuing to rise for some time....I don’t see much downside in the next 12-24 months, despite thinking the markets remain....’frothy’Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!2 -
Whatever happens, the sooner we are able to ditch the damn masks the better.6

It will be interesting to see what new dynamic (if any) takes place regarding holidays post covid. We had planned cruises and longer distance trips, but unlikely to be doing that until either covid has been eradicated, or the vaccine is proved to be 100% (or thereabouts) safe.I guess the younger generations will probably carry on as normal, but the older generations will be looking to holiday more locally in the UK, and will the "extra" UK residents holidaying in the UK cancel out the older tourists from other countries not coming to the UK?ie Will UK holiday destinations see a net gain, or a net loss in holiday business? It seems a lot of people have picked up on the idea of camper-vaning? (Should have brought some shares in campervan companies

Probably British people on staycations do not normally head to the same destinations as foreign tourists.Stubod said:It will be interesting to see what new dynamic (if any) takes place regarding holidays post covid. So could be a boom for traditional seaside holiday resorts/coastal towns , Yorkshire moors, Lake District etc . Plus busy at National Trust places and the likes .
On the other hand could be a bit dead in London, Edinburgh etc
Could be an idea to go somewhere away from the hot spots/crowds , like Northern Ireland , Teesdale, Scottish borders etc .2 -
The other thing I'll probably consider, when we get back to normal is joining one of our more "high end" gyms.
But that won't be until I'm pretty sure they won't be made to close again and they are not putting restrictions on availability (numbers) for facilities.
In the meantime, I hope our public pool opens asap. They had a really good system in place.
I miss swimming. 😞How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)2 -
My annual travel budget is about £15000, none of which got spent last year. I'm just rolling it up until I can travel again. Thinking of a massive splurge on India, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands. About four months should do it.The fascists of the future will call themselves anti-fascists.4

I don't mind them and may well keep wearing one in shops. It may give some protection against colds, flu and other infections and also means I can relax more with my naturally blank/unfriendly face.westv said:Whatever happens, the sooner we are able to ditch the damn masks the better.

I hate them with a passion. I don't like a world where almost everybody has half a face and nobody smiles.shinytop said:
