It does seem odd that some people are waiting for so long when mine only took 4 working days. Maybe it's because I was already an HSBC customer (GIC ISA and a linked Flexible Saver).

    Hello,

I'm with Santander 123 Lite and am thinking to switch. How is the HSBC app?  Is it easy to use? Can I login via face recognition (iPhone)? Does it have all features for transferring money etc from the mobile phone?  Is it worth switching?

    Thank you,

The app has all the basic functionality but I find the usability not as good as some others.

Opening the account can be hit and miss. I went into branch to open a Premier account and it was open within an hour. My partner has been waiting 7 weeks and nothing.

Yes my salary is  way above what they require. Just strange that they would offer a different account to me plus its a bank account not a loan i want
I too was turned down - like you my salary (15 years in same job) is much higher than they ask for - I was also an HSBC mortgage customer until the mortgage was paid off, so they know I'm a reasonably good bet - and I've never missed a payment on anything in my life - and I've checked my credit file and there's nothing nasty there either. I did try the "call this number if you're turned down" - never do that! :-) I was 45 minutes on hold (on and off) followed by the call centre person telling me "go visit a branch and they will certainly sort it out"!

But I'm also baffled by them offering me a "standard bank account" instead??? I suspect they prefer it if customers might need things like overdrafts or loans in the future - there's nothing actually in it for them if they offer you (or me) an account and we don't earn them any money :-)
I think you're right they don't want to be giving away £125 and get nothing in return i was just surprised when it came back with sorry we cant offer you this account! oh well i can live without them. I even got a text from them the next day saying sorry for the delay and they will get back to me shortly!!

Finally got both of our accounts set up for online banking and yesterday each received the £125 credit.

Quick question re: the 2 recurring payments required for the switch.... does anyone know if we have to leave those active now that the account is all set up and running, or can we cancel those 2 regular payments?

    Thanks in advance
  • Those payments are only to be able to do the switch and they are not a term of keeping the Advanced account opened.
I am wondering about the in-credit of £1750 - is that for a calendar month or from let’s say 20th to 20th? As my account is freshly opened so I was thinking whether I have to put £1750 by end of this month? Provably not but just double checking.

I am waiting for my switch to take place in the middle of next month as that is the date I have requested. I was expecting some difficulties with HSBC especially following the comments here but everything goes very smoothly so far. I have called them twice but they answered very quickly so didn’t have to wait on the phone for ages. Stupidly I put one of the numbers of my sort code wrong so my switch didn’t go through first but they set it up for me again. The only thing is that the security system seems a bit too much with variation of passwords and security questions for different stuff.

A heads up regarding the £1,750 transfer - I transferred in a little more than that initially, then withdrew approx £1,600 of that back to my main current account. HSBC blocked my account temporarily because I had made a large transfer after only recently opening the account.

The only way to un-suspend my account was by phoning HSBC to authorise the transaction.

Also - yes, they do take a long time to communicate anything. I got no communication whatsoever after applying & only 3 days after, got a text saying my account was open.
