Does your salary match up with the monthly payments required?Tony_Bear said:I applied and was turned down but offered a different account. No idea why i own my home have excellent credit score so was pretty hacked off with them. Anyone else had same result?
You could always appeal, but most likely you just weren't the customer type you were after. Happens. Credit score is irrespective.0 -
That bank looks like very picky which day have full rights to be of course but in the same time a lot of people complain about difficulties in communications with them and in general their service. My partner has been previously with them as well and remember they were not great.0

Still had nothing from them. Signed up on the 10th! Contacted them and they said it was still in progress. How long does it take to open a bank account!?0

Yes my salary is way above what they require. Just strange that they would offer a different account to me plus its a bank account not a loan i want0

Any new HSBC customers received the telephone banking information yet? I've had everything else; debit card, card PIN, account switch completion letter and welcome to HSBC pack.0

Yes it was around 14 days since opening.uknick said:Any new HSBC customers received the telephone banking information yet? I've had everything else; debit card, card PIN, account switch completion letter and welcome to HSBC pack.0 -
That's the one part I had to chase when I opened my HSBC account a few years back. I sorted it out in branch, but with my more recent account openings with M&S Bank/FD I set this up over the phone - it might be worth giving them a call if it doesn't turn up?uknick said:Any new HSBC customers received the telephone banking information yet? I still haven't received mine in the post (despite being told it had been sent). However, I called up and was able to set it up over the phone, after some straightforward security stuff.

I too was turned down - like you my salary (15 years in same job) is much higher than they ask for - I was also an HSBC mortgage customer until the mortgage was paid off, so they know I'm a reasonably good bet - and I've never missed a payment on anything in my life - and I've checked my credit file and there's nothing nasty there either. I did try the "call this number if you're turned down" - never do that! :-) I was 45 minutes on hold (on and off) followed by the call centre person telling me "go visit a branch and they will certainly sort it out"!Tony_Bear said:Yes my salary is way above what they require. But I'm also baffled by them offering me a "standard bank account" instead??? I suspect they prefer it if customers might need things like overdrafts or loans in the future - there's nothing actually in it for them if they offer you (or me) an account and we don't earn them any money :-)0
