If A is home, B is normal place of work. and C is place to be visited, then all travel from B to C and back to B must be allowed.You never know how far you can go until you go too far.1

Its actually easier than that
The complete journey from A -> C and back is reclaimable, as long as C is not somewhere you spend mor ethan 40% of your time working.
Not just the excess. You might be confusing a policy with the tax law. Anything that work does not cover, you can reclaim through P87 is under 2.5K1 -
With my employer, all allowable business mileage is calculated from normal place of work to customer location (so B to C), not from A to C.Jenni x1

Yep, whjich is their policy. Your entitlement is for the entire journey A-C, at 45p per mile. Any difference you can choose to reclaim via tax
(I did this all the time for the last 8 years as we got no reimbursement, and prior to that at a different company only got 3/4 of the stat rate per mile so I claimed the difference)1
