Had an unintelligible final bill from GNE in August 2021.  Didn't keep paper copies of my GNE bills (fool!) and can't get to them.  Will need to ring them tomorrow.

Just had my first bill from EDF.  I am a dual fuel customer.  No gas mentioned.  No way of providing gas reading on website.  Oh - and they want to TREBLE my monthly Direct Debit payment.

And this was meant to be easy????

I had a similar problem - the first bill was just for gas - electricity meter readings were not recorded by them (I got a message saying my reading was wrong, the force confirmation box then didn't work) - I gave them a complete set of readings via online chat (this was before the bill). Post-bill (having ignored the electricity readings I'd sent by chat), they then added an extra one-off DD (about 2.5 times the normal monthly one) covering the amount of the bill (even though I was still in credit). Contacted them again via online chat and got updated electricity readings to them and the helpful person the other end sorted through all the calculations and issued a new, correct, bill (cancelling the previous one and removing the erroneous DD). So far, so good - but they then more than doubled the October DD on the grounds that I had yet to switch so would be placed on their deemed variable rate.

My impression is that their online system is inflexible and poorly designed (the worst I've encountered) but that their customer service is reasonably able to clean up the mess. I've just instigated a switch (to separate suppliers for the first time in many years) that should be completed at the end of the month (I miss out on about 4 days worth of the cheap ex-GNE energy).

  • I have been advised that I would receive a £200 credit - 9th August protracted telephone call.  Called today as not arrived - in fact only £100 was released to me - no letter /email to advise why the change.  On the 9th August call I also sought to clarify and obtain confirmation that the tariff printed on my bill would indeed last to 31st January 2029 - as it seemed too incredible to be true.  Was advised several time yes.  On todays call which was in part prompted by the missing refund and in part by an email saying my tariff was ending EDF said they had made a mistake - but again no contact from them to advise me of this.  They are going back to listen to the call.  Where do I stand? Can I insist that they keep to the terms in the to 31st January 2029 bill advice or ?  The additional bill received today also has the same end date for the tariff.

Unless you've received different info from EDF than everyone else the "Welcome GNE Variable ..." tariffs have always been variable, it's right there in the name. They will vary as and when EDF chooses.
Now if they were called "Welcome GNE Fixed ..." and they had been advertised as fixed until 2029, you might have a better case.

  • Anyone received their credit back from EDF yet?

Were you migrated to a EDF Welcome GNE Tariiff or did you switch away from GNE  ?????

I moved house just before the administration, so guessing that would class as a switch away.

I haven't had a bill from EDF yet. My final statement from GNE was about £130 in debit. The debt should have been more than that, but EDF took the gas reading I gave and ignored the electric one. I proactively raised the DD, but the higher rate hasn't been taken yet. They have made no attempt to get me to pay the balance to GNE.

I've just made a payment of £150 to bring me back into credit, and done a switch to Sainsburys 2 year fix. Hopefully it will go through ok, it is the best offer I could find, and with fuel prices shooting up I thought I had better fix now. The EDF 3 year fix was nowhere near the Sainsburys offer.

My switch away, final bill from GNE 6 July, EDF stated they hadnt had my account transferred over, asked me to forward final bill to them which turned out not to be good enough for EDF to issue credit refund despite fact someone I know exactly same situation with much smaller credit balance EDF issued cheque refund.
My latest update yesterday "We have recently have an update from the our team that the account will be sent over as a termed account. We have passed this one to our team to check if we can add your GNE final bill and balance at the earliest in the account. I am aiming to resolve this complaint by 15 October 2021"

As I haven't transferred out it looks like my cheapest opion is to rollover onto EDF variable tarrif. All deals I'm looking at are maybe £20-30 more a month. Is there any risk in rolling over in early October ie   can that rollover become more expensive or is it locked in (plus ofcom permitted rise)?

I am also going to stay with EDF on their standard variable rate from October onwards. Standard variable rates are limited by the price cap until that is reviewed (and very likely raised) next April. So effectively SVRs are now a 6-month capped deal.

It will be interesting to see how well other big companies manage taking on new customers from bust energy suppliers. EDF have been shockingly slow as all of us on this thread can attest! I'll especially be watching these forums to see how well Octopus Energy manage in taking on Avro customers.
  • So EDF were only responsible for the bills from 21/05/2021, anyone with a debit with GNE is free to leave that until it is requeted from GNE administrators right? EDF are trying to ask me for the GNE balance aswell which I think is legally wrong.

Have they sent a separate closing bill for GNE ? Or have they included the debit in the first EDF bill? As I understand it, they can act on behalf of the administrators of GNE to collect debts but it should be via a fully detailed final bill.
