Well, I actually got a "deadlock" letter from EDF which also seems to have served as a catalyst for EDF to actually take an interest.  They now agreed that the GNE tariff applied right up to end September, but still seem to have "lost" the £500 credit that I had with GNE.

I have written to EDF suggesting that the bill is calculated from joining GNE (Jan 2020) through to September 2021 at the single tariff that applied, then to subtract the total that I have paid and the balance is what I now owe.  Then EDF can argue with GNE over where the £500 credit balance went.

Are there any flaws in my proposal?

Eventually, someone at EDF has taken responsibility for sorting out my bill and they agreed to calculate from the last know point with GNE (1 Feb 2020) to the end of the price promise (30 Sept 2021) so that is 20 months.

My electricity for that period is 6,300 kWh.

I have calculated my gas at 39,000 kWh, which seems high to me.
I wonder whether I have made an error in the calculation as there are several conversion factors applied in this and I could have slipped up somewhere.
The actual meter readings, in cubic feet (ft3) are:
    9,632 (start)
0,878 (end) which is really 10,878 because of the dial going over from 9,999 back to zero
Is my calculation of 39,065 kWh correct?

With conversion of units and applying a calorific value, I could have got something wrong.

Depending on the calorific value, looks about right

    Thank you - I used CV = 39.
EDF may use a different number, but if I am in about the correct area for the calculation I know the sort of number that EDF should be returning.  I just thought that 39k kWh over 20 months was quite a high consumption (23k kWh/year).

It is quite a lot. What has it been in previous years (assuming you've been in your current property for more than 20 months)?

Electricity I know is around 10 kWh / day average (higher winter, lower summer).  So, the 6,300 kWh for 20 months is about as expected.  Barely any impact from WFH.

Gas, looking back, was previously around 20,000 kWh per year.  Maybe the extra 3,000 kWh per year reflects the impact of WFH.  Either way, it's much higher than the average as I'd understand it, even for 4 bed house.

Well, eventually, I have a (verbal) statement from EDF how much I owe them and it's about right.  For reasons unknown to anyone, they could not conclude a bill calculation to 30th September - the only date they could work out the amount owed was to 13th October.  Anyway, we got to a number and I am happy to pay them, so just hope the confirmed bill and payment slip in the post matches what was said.

As to current / future rate, it was hard to get anything from them, but eventually they advised:
    • Electric standing charge 28.602 pence per day
    • Electric unit rate 22.701 pence per kWh
    • Gas standing charge 30.7755 pence per day
    • Gas unit rate 4.2693 pence per kWh
I asked for confirmation that this was the price cap rate and the person I was speak with was unable to advise but, as I've not chosen a tariff, I can only assume this must be the OFGEM capped tariff.

Maybe it is via cash/cheque method https://www.edfenergy.com/sites/default/files/r505_deemed_rate_card.pdf

Thanks @bristolleedsfan - I do seem to be on the SE cheque rate.

Don't know why EDF could not simply provide that in the clear format you provided - especially as you found it within the EDF website in any case.

I will try to switch back to DD as it will be cheaper.
  • Hey all.

I'd raised a final bill disupte with Green Energy in Administration through their (little to no)Helpline on 0800 520 0202.

This was a few months ago now and they said it wouldn't take too long to resolve. I tried to chase it up today but that phone number now seems to be out of service. Does anyone know of an updated number to call? The last time I called EDF I was directed to the above line which is when I raised the dispute. EDF said that it had nothing to do with them.

Long story short. I sold the house in April this year and called EDF to give my final bill reading on completion date. They said they'd send the readings over to GNE and close out my account when it eventually transferred over. I got a final bill and whilst the energy readinbg was correct, the gas reading was higher than it should be so my refund was less than it should be. I did get some refund (a cheque to my old address but redirected by Royal Mail). That's something at least, but I was hoping to get everything I was owed back. I suspect they've took the rest of my money and run though, unless there's someone I can actually call to have this resolved?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you.
