Has EDF made a rod for their own back by saying "it it will be a reduction in what you are currently paying".
Why not, as others did, simply say we will match your existing tariff ?  Or am I missing something ?

I wouldn’t think so. Basically suppliers submit a proposal to ofgem for the customers of companies that go into administration.
EDF have 3 million customers and wanted to grow the business by offering a good rate. It’s a risk the company can obviously afford to take in the hope some of GNE remain with them. From past experience I would say about 80% of the customer do remain and renew to an edf tariff in the long term

When a supplier is up for the SoLR process, suppliers bidding for it go into essentially a blind auction. Ofgem chooses the supplier based on a number of criteria, one of which being "what price will the customers be on". Offering a price below their current tariffs shows that EDF really wanted these customers.

It's also probably due to them wanting to try and retain as many customers as possible. If you tell a customer that their tariff will be cheaper than they're on now then you probably have more chance of keeping them with you.

Normally when a supplier goes bust you have a handful of customers (below 50k) and for a large supplier, gaining that many customers isnt' as much of a big deal for them.

Having cancelled my DD with GNE I note that the daily Standing Charge has increased. I assume I will be billed at the original rates given they have ceased to trade.

Same here, cancelled my DD as switch out is due to complete on 15th with DD due on 20th, am in significant credit didnt see why I should have another payment possibly taken out.
Having done the same just the other day, and having read your posts, i've just checked my online account to find the same wrt the standing charges and also the unit rates have been changed to one which is 100 times the rate they should be.
Obviously no option to reinstate the DD now, so looks like going to have a fight on my hands when they eventually generate a bill, am assuming noting I can do at the moment.

Give us details please - you seem to be saying your 14p/kWh is now £14 and your standing charges of 20p/day is now £20.

I think you are misreading something.

    Payment method

    Payment method
    Pay on receipt of bill
    Unit rate
    13.99 pence per kWh*
    Standing charge
    34.95 pence per day
    Agreement start date

Dual fuel discount at £7.50 per year

My unit rate hasn't changed but daily SC has gone from £75.08 to £133.95 a year.
I assume this is just the software adjusting because I cancelled DD.

I don’t understand why you assume your going to have a fight. At the end of the day you cancelled your direct debit yes the supplier went to administration but it’s an easy process to resolve when you set it back up? You are correct that there’s nothing you can do until your supply is showing on edf systems in a few weeks

From EDF's FAQs for GNE customers being migrated:

"Will I still receive my Warm Home Discount (WHD) payment?
The great news is if you've successfully applied for the scheme with Green Network Energy, we'll be taking these on so you won't miss out on your payment. [...] If you've applied for the Warm Home Discount - Support Plus scheme and received confirmation that your application has been successful we will honour these payments."

At the same time, EDF points out that its own WHD for 2020-2021 has closed. I suspect many people will be in the same boat as me: application pending. The WHD tab in GNE online accounts has disappeared over the past 48 hours. The WHD is a lifeline for many people in a variety of circumstances. Can Ofgem do something about this?
