  • I have to say I rate EDF as an energy supplier, I only left them before over smart meters issues, I don't want one, and @MISSLA comments are so welcoming. Perhaps when the dust over GNE settles I shall be returning to EDF

that's good to hear thank you :) Also you can now opt out of smart meters, you just have to be offered one by a certain date its not compulsory for anyone to have a smart meter

Hi MISSLHA - so far this move sounds quite positive for me - my GNE deal ends in September so it should all work well - but I'd appreciate you confirming what the position is with dual fuel discounts please...it's a small amount but could easily be forgotten in the melee?
Sadly this is my second "ceased trading" episode in as many years after being moved on from Economy Energy and I'd like to ensure I don't have the same problems experienced last time!
    Thanks.

Any discounts currently included in your GNE tariff are honoured.  EDF don't offer a duel fuel discount, so when your GNE tariff comes to an end you will no longer receive this. You will be offered a new fixed rate when this happens, or you can switch to a provider of your choice, we would always notify you at least 42 days prior to your tariff coming to an end of your available options.
The duel fuel discount may be added to your bill in a different format when the switch is complete and you may receive it in a Lum sum payment rather than on each bull (I am unsure how this is currently provided to customers of GNE).  Currently i'm just going from past instances, when we have taken solarplicity, and Toto customers over who were in the same situation. Sorry I can't give any further clarification, we just don't have the information as yet but we should hopefully know more within the next week.

Having cancelled my DD with GNE I note that the daily Standing Charge has increased. I assume I will be billed at the original rates given they have ceased to trade.

Same here, cancelled my DD as switch out is due to complete on 15th with DD due on 20th, am in significant credit didnt see why I should have another payment possibly taken out.

My switch due 21st. Who issues the final bill? Also watch that they don't try and charge early exit fee!
  • Shop around! They said. Get the best deal! They said. Don't pay more than you should! They said...
...Then spend hours and hours reading forums in an attempt to glean sufficient information, to ensure that after the firm you select goes bust, you don't end up paying more than you should in the ensuing process....

So, i am apparently now, as of Sunday 31 Jan 2021 in a new contract...with EDF. Which is strange, because despite GNE going under almost a week ago, EDF being appointed after a 'competetive process' and me, being 'put into' a new contract, i have no idea whatsoever of the terms and conditions of this new contract.
Specifically, what are my new Tariff Rates?

    just sayin...

I have got a screenshot from signup confirmation screen showing gas early exit fee as 0.00.......

If the supplier was a broadband ISP and it went bust, you would be totally on your own. No broadband supply and any outstanding credit sitting in a large of pile of unsecured creditors. It would take a couple of weeks for you to get back online. The SoLR competitive process is more about reducing the overall cost of the supplier failure which every energy consumer ends up paying. Effectively you are on a Deemed Contract with the SoLR. To do anything else, would mean that you would be without energy for up to 17 to 35 days. Primarily, consumers choose a small supplier on price ignoring the fact that small suppliers and low prices increases the risk of failure when trading conditions are difficult. If you don’t like the SoLR’s tariff or conditions, you will be allowed to switch away without penalty.
