Trace driver details

This is nonsense. Even if he's parked on the line, or in 4 spaces at once, it is the fault of the other driver for hitting him, a stationary object. Bear in mind this was someone parking, not pulling out, so they had the choice to park elsewhere if it was too tight.Supersonos said:
I think the problem may be your parking. Sounds like you're parking way too close to other cars or not central in the space.neilmcl said:Is there any way to track down a driver (registered keeper) of a vehicle without going through insurance and police?
Had my car scraped this morning whilst in the supermarket, right along my driver's door by some idiot trying to park up, I caught it all on dash cam so have the car details. Fortunately it looked far worse than it was and turned out just to be paint transfer, I managed to polish it out. Normally I'd just let it go but this is the third time in the past year where some numpty has hit my car and left without leaving any details and I don't want this guy to thinking he's got away with it.
By your logic a car stopped on the motorway, in lane 2, is fair game for rear ending regardless of the fact the traffic ahead is stationary, because lane 2 "should" be moving not stopped.1 -
Hmm. Rather a topical illustration you chose there...robatwork said:

It seems that piling into the back of stationary vehicles on motorways is officially no longer the driver's fault for not looking where they're going.

If it wasn't the driver's fault, why was he convicted of causing death by driving without due care and attention and jailed for the offence?AdrianC said:Hmm. Rather a topical illustration you chose there...

Oh really! So this is some sort of personal vigilant e justice you want to dish out rather than going through official channels.neilmcl said:
Nothing wrong with my parking. Just seems to be a lot of idiots around who have no care of anybody else out on the road.Supersonos said:

And if it simply polished out, what are you looking for? A refund for the polish you used?
All I want from this is the satisfaction of being able to pull the guy up and let him know that you can't go around knocking into people's cars without any come back. Maybe he might take it on board and be a bit more careful in future. Nothing more sinister than that.
I do not condone that at all , and yes it's very sinister that you want to trace someone through back door channels and then go knock on their door, what happens when the guy answers and he's a 6 foot monster you gonna be so gung ho then? Most people will tell you to eff off very impolitely and if you manage to get out of there without a scratch you should count yourself lucky
As this has done no damage to your car , simply chalk it up to one of the problems of today's driving standards and move on, more important things to worry about at the moment
Of course there's nothing stopping you parking in a quieter area of the carpark to protect your car0 -
Report to the police. Give them all the dash cam details. And they’ll head over at some point to give the RK a demand to identify the driver, and then the driver will likely get a fixed penalty. No harm to your insurance at all and like you say, hopefully will stop these w*nk*rs thinking they can get away with it.1

Substitute head over for some civilian member of staff sending a letter and you've got it. You never used to be able to issue a fixed penalty following an accident but maybe things have changed.es5595 said:Report to the police. Give them all the dash cam details. Nope I'm giving you the most likely scenario based on you knocking on some guys door and getting in there face.neilmcl said:

How did someone scrape you if you park away from everybody else especially as you had been unlucky enough to have had it done to you three times?0 -
It's weird that when you deliberately park in a space miles away from others with no other cars close to you and on foot you pass spaces between cars closer to the supermarket entrance. Yet when you return to your car there is a car parked so close to your drivers door that you have to get in the passenger side and slide across. Yet the area you are parked in isn't any more crowded than when you parked up. Someone has deliberately parked right by you with a full choice of spaces around them and others even closer to the entrance. It's not as rare an event as you might think. People can be weird.Homer_home said:
