tesco had factor 15 H Tropic oil on reduced to clear, for £1.33 !   6 bottles!  I had them !! :D:D:D:D:D
    Goes with the 4 bottles i still got from 2020 ! (factor 4 cooking oil ! ;)    hehe !)
and yeah, still booked,  got the road trip booked in for May 6th, San Fran to Vegas, home from LAX..... (my dad & friend)..
Then me and the wife go for our 11night bash on June 23rd....

Car hire prices are scaring me at the mo, but still looking forward to the Vegas fun & sun ! (and wings, and ribs! :D )
Hope those car hire prices come down, but its not looking good as the "experts" are saying the full production of new cars wont be up and running till late next year consequently keeping used car prices high, meaning the car hire companies are struggling to replace their fleets

I found using the Ebookers mobile site recently bought the prices down to a more acceptable range, we had to be creative though picking a car up in vegas hiked up the prices so no car for us in vegas but a $39 southwest flight to palm springs bought the price right down . we were going that way anyway.

ok, so today, i think i might bite the bullet...
Car hire prices are stupid as we know, and will last quite some time, although it makes me wonder, will people really pay the high price ?   But then i guess, if u need a car, u got no choice (as with my 1st trip in May from SanFran to Vegas to LA).....

    Buttttttttttttttttttttt, just tried Auto Europe...
and for 1 week rental, including fuel/3drivers (aka: Gold)   ,  its showing i can get 4 wheels in June, for £543....
Its with Dollar, and its for what i like, Fullsize SUV (Yukon/Tahoe)...
Am thinking, even back in 2019, a week rental for 1 of those with Gold would cost £350 anyway , so given a car the size of a Yaris is around £660 Upwards,  this sounds a super deal...
Figure it would cost us a fortune in Uber with the amount of times we drive out, etc....

I'm expecting there to be some hotel deals coming out over the next few days - are the following websites still considered to be the best places to keep an eye for them?

Re: cars - is the rental prices a new problem, or have I been lucky?

Just checking and for various bookings over the next 12 months, I have been able to get (all direct Hertz bookings):
    - Dec '21: a Group U (ie. Mustang) convertible for $443 USD (7 days @ Miami)
    - Apr '22: a Group U (ie. Mustang) convertible for $471 USD (7 days @ Los Angeles)
    - Apr '22: a V6 Hendrick Camaro SS for £630 GBP (9 days @ Las Vegas)
    - Aug '22: a Group D (ie. Jetta  ) for $609 CAD (13 days @ Vancouver)
    - Aug '22: a group U4 (ie. Camaro SS) convertible for £747 GBP (7 days @ Las Vegas - this one's a bit of a treat)

Some are slightly more than I expected to pay, but they're all around the price I kinda expected to pay (I'm a bit out of touch though to be honest)

I know it’s been two years, and I usually rent economy and tip my way up if possible, but those prices look high to me.

Rental prices have gone up because there is a worldwide shortage of new cars. Or that is what I’ve read. We go for 6 weeks. Those prices would make a dent in our trip budget for sure.

Those prices are way different to any UK sites..ie Hertz uk want £1600 for an economy car 2 weeks in May 22. So I assume that is Hertz US as you are paying in dollars..what insurance cover do you need on top of that etc

On another note, hope this new strain doesn’t put a stop to all our plans again…already reintroduced the 2 day PCR test and isolation 🙁
  • Well our December trip is off, not due to Covid funnily enough, but our dog-sitter has cancelled and we can't get anyone else.

Now the joy of trying to get refunds for all the elements. Flight+hotel was booked with Ebookers, hotel is free cancellation, but flights are apparently "airline credit" only. Which is rubbish as booking flights only through an agent seems completely pointless and you can't redeem it as part of another flights+hotel package.

That sucks..can the dog go in kennels ( I don’t have a dog , so no idea).

It’s almost always better to book flights direct though, much easier to manage
