Is it worth going back to basics here, so:
1. You bought Norton Virus Protector from a physical shop?
2. When you went to install it, it asked for card details, which you do not want to give?
3. You have been complaining to Norton about this since then?
4. Your temporary license has now expired?
So as others have stated - what are you trying to achieve?
Thanks Mark
Mark, quite frankly I have tried to come to terms with Norton Life Loc since 1st January 2021 and this is what I am trying to achieve to:Max2010 said:
Hi Fosterdog thanks for your reply . I understand their illegal use of bank objects . You are supposed to use and store them at POINT-OF-SALE I have ten years using Norton :Fosterdog said:It sounds like you don't understand how their auto renewal works. I don't use their products but Norton and a number of other security software providers have worked in this way for a number of years. When you first register your product they ask for card details for you to set up auto renewal (some call it continual protection), if you don't want to go ahead with the auto renew it is a setting that is very easy to turn off in your account.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of these auto renew services at all and try to avoid them where possible but to claim you are being conned is going a little bit too far.
Which they now state it is mandated they now have this information and you can remove it afterwards . However we are all aware on a form when you post information it can go anywhere . Further more they have insisted I either provide bank reciept or bank details they can register me free 12 months . How can it be free if we have paid for it! Why do they require a bank account if I never use the service autorenewal and dont require it . I support local traders .Why do they not seem to have a proper data processing department?
a) Get my puchased licence working .
b) Prevent this sillyness from occuring next year. When I purchase thier product again from a shop next year.
c) Bring Norton Life Loc in to 2021 regulations.
d) Ask if anyone has seen a mandate from the banks to use thier products i.e bank cards for anything other than point of sale. Which Norton Life Loc as you have indicated are using for a non prescribed use in bank terms and conditions of use.0 -
Martin sold the site a few years back so no good emailing him about peoples replies.
My brother has Norton and Lifelock only works.if you have paid Norton for their anti virus. Also.they have now stopped.selling the.discs. My brother waited until they went on sale each year before.buying for the next year. Now you have.to.so.it online.0 -

Tell your brother this is what they are now selling just the licence number it comes in differant formats depending on stores. So you see I am paid up but without protection . You used to be able to log into your account and add this licence some idiot at Norton Life Loc decided to change this in what sems an illegal practice to store bank cards with out a transaction or point of sale occuring with out regstering with data processing services . Its very wrong . You only have to look at what happened with TalkTalk . It was allegedly hacked and lost all thier bank data .
This is my new puchase which Norton Life Loc has had the number from breaking the seal and has not installed it in 14 days .

Hi Max2010,
Just to be clear, I am not a legal or data expert and don't know the answer to some of your points. I am only another long-term Norton user like yourself.I'm guessing Norton have offered you the free 12 month subscription to persuade you to stay with them. Either they want you to register your pre-paid licence with them and they will extend it by 12 months, i.e. one year paid, one year free, so you would get two years' Norton protection instead of one. Or, maybe they are offering it with no-strings-attached, as compensation for the inconvenience you've had, in which case you might want to accept their free offer then use your current pre-paid licence next year when the free one expires. I get that you don't want to go through the same palaver next year but I think the priority at the moment is to get your anti-virus running again now. You can deal with next year when it comes as you may have a better solution by then. You are correct in saying that it wasn't compulsory to give Norton your bank card details in the past, but it is now. It says on the packaging of some of Norton's products that a credit card or PayPal is required to enrol and activate the licence online, so the buyer is aware. This is Norton's way of getting people into their auto-renewal scheme, in the hope that people will just renew from them instead of buying from other sources. You can opt out of auto-renewal and delete your bank card details once the pre-paid licence has been activated. I know it's not ideal, but I did it because I trust that Norton, being in the business of security, would encrypt my details securely.I'm sorry for all the waffle, but I just wanted to reassure you that you weren't singled out, others have had to give their bank card details too if they want their pre-paid licence to work.Good luck.1 -
